RICHARD GAUTHIER.

Whopee!!!!!

Now that Jazzy & Lenny split, I think this news though old, is very promising. I hope Richard transforms this pair into a world class pair skaters. We will see what happens next year.

at the "circket cult" it's serge's job to watch the web and try to keep out any word of what's happening there...with some success...

in richard's camp, they must keep even a closer watch out as you never hear any reports of what's going on there...

this is old news...yet interesting...and i wonder how craig and val are doing...it's been almost three months (almost one third of their total time as a pair)...should be some noteable changes by now...

anyone in the montreal area seen them work out lately??

um...i guess that I would be part of the "cricket cult" and I have been posting for years. Most people at the club know that I post and are very supportive of that. I have never been told by Serge or anyone else not to. One or two of the other skaters have also been known to post. Sorry, I know that this is a little off-topic but I wanted to clear that up.

no offense ment...i stand corrected...word i'd heard in the past was that paul's students were not to comment on the goings on in his crib (i'd always wondered how you had been able to post repeatedly in the past) btw...i call it the "cricket cult" because of everyone's devotion to paul...even craig sat on the bench for two years rather than switch coaches...everyone i've ever know that has skated under paul has professed that they would never leave him...

with this in mind...craig and val's leaving may be old news...but it's actually big news...

Mostly because they mostly speak French there and they don't come as often as their fellow English skaters on English board.

Haven't noticed that most of the time you hear about skaters from other provinces but rarely, I mean, not as often as Quebec skaters? It is simply a language issue.

Blades - no offence taken, I just wanted to clear things up. As for the "cricket cult" label, it doesn't bother me as long as it is not meant in a negative way. My family and I have been known to jokingly refer to it as the "Wirtz cult" for pretty much the same reasons.

If anyone does know how Craig and Val are doing, I would love to hear. They are such a talented team and such nice people.

I know... Isn't frustrating? lol. For example, I just found out recently that Annie Bellemare's moving to Vancouver to train with Joanne MacLeod.... but I didn't see anything on the boards about it. There are lots of Quebec skaters that I really enjoy, so it would be nice to hear more about them.

Adding 1 + 1 and trying to get 2 out of it ...

I gather Annie is moving to Vancouver because Bruno Marcotte (her boyfriend or is it fiancee?) has accepted the "Pair Director" position at Burnaby 8Rinks ... at which Joanne McLeod is the "Skating Director."

It will be interesting to see how Annie makes out with Joanne McLeod.

I hope she adjusts successfully to both the West Coast lifestyle and to Joanne's instruction style.

Just read the link to the Marcoux & Buntin article.

No wonder Craig has such a big smile on his face, and enjoys skating with Val so much ... according to the article his "last partner" was Jesse Sturdy. Isn't Jesse Sturdy a guy ... wasn't he Meeran Trombley's old partner and Chantal Poirier's current partner?!?! Hee hee hee

It may be the opposite also...

Well after reading about the Lariviere and Faustino split and the reduced skating coverage on Canadian t.v. next season, thank goodness something good is happening. Yay! :) Marcoux & Buntin are my favourite current Canadian pair. They should have been on the podium this year at Nationals actually.:?? They were only 1 vote away from it. I like their look on the ice and they had a pretty good season. They just need to improve their consistency on a few elements and they will be in good shape.

If they are moving to train with Richard Gauthier in Montreal this means that they will probably be training in the same public skating arena that Sale and Pelletier trained in with him, and I used to visit that arena when I was in Montreal. This means I might be able to see Marcoux & Buntin at the arena the next time I am there.:) I also think that Craig is the best-looking current male pair skater in Canada.;)

Isn't Richard Gauther coaching the Polish Pair as well? I believe that they talked a lot about that at worlds. If S/Z are still there Val and Craig may be able to pick up some "lift-tips", since S/Z are one of the all time best in that department.

On a side note, are there any high ranking teams, except W/P, at the cricket club now?

It depends on what you consider high ranking. Poirier and Sturdy were 7th at nationals (and many felt they should have been higher). That would make them currently ranked 5th in Canada (due to splits from other teams). We also have so really good junior teams this year (including the current novice champs).

Which rink in Montreal will they be training at? I would love to stop by and see them.

Well assuming Richard Gauthier is still based in the same section of Montreal as he was a few years ago, they would be training in the area of Montreal called St. Leonard. Richard Gauthier is known as a St. Leonard coach. There are 2 arenas in St. Leonard. There is a big one that Gauthier trains his students at for most of the season, and a smaller one that he often uses during the summer months. A few years ago when Sale and Pelletier were training with Gauthier and before they became famous they trained with him in St. Leonard. The arenas are the type that are public and are open to the public to go in and see. I went to see Sale and Pelletier skating there a few years ago. Check out the addresses of the arenas. The Hébért rink is the one Gauthier often uses between June and August. The 2 rinks are around the street of Lacordiere in St. Leonard, right off the expressway. I know a bit about St. Leonard because I am part Italian and I have Italian relatives in the area. St. Leonard has the biggest population of Italians in Montreal. :)

Anyway, as for Marcoux and Buntin I hope they have a good season next year.:) As Debbi Wilkes said this season, they have many good elements and work well together for a new team. They have a good twist, good lifts, and Craig has a beautiful position in the spiral section--one of the best in the field as Debbi said.:P
