I'm interested in learning about the choreography aspects of figure skating, and I'm wondering if choreographers have to go through any special training or testing in order to be a World/Olympic choreographer. I believe coaches have to pass tests in order to coach at that level(?). Is it the same for choreographers?

anyone can be a choreogrpaher if they so desired. Most skaters will go to a reputable one who has experience in skating, most likely being a former skater. Sometimes they will look outside of the skating community and hire a private dance coach, ballet, jazz, ballroom, etc.

It may depend on the country. In the US, anyone can coach, & anyone can choreograph. There is a ranking system done through the PSA, which helps boost your credentials, but is not a requirement. There is a ranking track for choreography as well as coaching.

I think it's different in Canada--at least for coaches.
