Dick Button and Simon from American Idol

I was watching American Idol the other day and couldn't help thinking that Simon Cowell's criticisms remind me of Dick Button in some ways. They both seem very negative and critical, but somehow it's fun to listen to them.

I don't know. I can't say that I've ever seen/heard Simon "grinnin loudly!"

Simon is cruel, moreover, he can't sing. Dick may be critical, or even down right cynical at times, but first and foremost, he is a skater himself and truly loves the sport.

Btw, did anyone see Simon on Conan O'Brien? I thought that was hilarious. When he was put on the spot like that (because of each edited show, I think viewers expect him to be able to come up with witty comebacks "just like that"), he seemed to have a real tough time.
