According to a post on a Russian forum (www.sports.ru), Julia Obertas is now training with a skater named Slavnov (sorry, don't know his first name!)

I'm surprised to hear O&S split up so soon after Worlds--I thought she, in particular, showed a lot of potential and hopefully she and her new partner will make a good match!

Slavnov rang a bell when I read it. I remembered correctly...
Julia KARBOVSKAYA / Sergei SLAVNOV represented russian this year on Junior Grand Prix Circuit. They won their event in Italy and came 7th at the JGP final. If we are talking about the same person then Julia Obertas is now skating with Sergei Slavnov? But I am just guessing. :)

Seems to be a widespread rumor that Obertas and Slavnov (yes, the same Sergei Slavnov from the junior circuit) are/will be skating together now, though I don't believe there's been any confirmation in the media yet.

Personally, it's not a change that bothers me, although I don't know enough about Slavnov to know what kind of partner he'll be for her. I wasn't overly impressed with Sokolov, and there's been buzz for so many years about attitude issues on his part (I remember reading some pretty negative reports from as far back as the '98 junior worlds) that I always wondered if the O/Sokolov partnership would last anyway.

I had never seen Julia before this years worlds broadcast and I thought she was absolutley lovely and perfect for pairs. Hope to see more of her - she reminds me of Elena B. so maybe there is an Anton out there for her!

i agree... i really like her skating... although i do not think that sokolov is the right partner for her... i love their throw 3flip... she looks to b a very promising pair partner... hopefully she can find a partner as promising as her...

I couldn't be happier tat Obertas is skating with a different partner...I don't know if anyone remembers her when she skated in Junior Pairs, with a different partner, and they won Junior Worlds...She showed much potential then, and even more now...so I think it'd be great if she got a stronger partner that would compliment her more...Sokolov skated with her as though she was 200 pounds!! He couldn't even keep her in a star lift without making me scared for her life!!

I always felt that Sokolov was not a good partner for her and that she should find another one. However, it is hard to say right now if the new partner will be better or not. I have not seen him skate. From the pictures he looks leaner, with longer limbs. That may be a good physical match. Yulia has nice fluidity, and arms movement that reminds me of Elena Berezhnaya. However, I am not sure she is as strong a jumper, but time will tell.

This Russian article confirms that Yulia is now skating with Slavnov and they had their first practice in Yubilenyi (St.Petersburg) coached by the Velikovs.

I've heard this over and over again, but I just don't see it. She's as stiff and uninspired as Tatiana Totmianina. JMO
