Has anyone heard anything yet about who is competing where?
I am getting really impatient! :x :(
You're gonna have to keep being patient. :)
It was announced at the ACGM in Windsor that the GP assignments would be announced *sometime* after the ISU Congress. Given things like the 'depletion' of the top 5 pairs teams, and whatever else may be going on with the skaters, it could be taking some time (possibly some negotiating with other GP hosts?) to figure out exactly who's going where.
A few years ago it wasn't uncommon to not hear about the GP assignments until sometime in July...it's still early yet...

But I'm NOT patient!!! Darn, I guess I got spoiled the last few years with them coming out the end of May or 1st of June. I emailed Skate Canada last week just in case they could give me just 1 skater's assignments so I could plan my life but they said the assignments weren't finalyzed yet. I can see how it is tougher to figure out with major retirements, etc. Oh well, I'll TRY to be more patient!

Cheryl, would that just happen to be Ben?
If you do find out please let this fellow fan know.
I'm really anxious about JGPs. I hope Greening and Sutherland get one especially since we can send any # of pairs to the Montreal one why not?
I'm still wondering why they aren't on the NAC list anymore.

Well I haven't heard of any assignments yet but I hope both USFSA and Skate Canada posts theirs soon...
My guesses for the Canadian Assignments...
MEN
Buttle- 2
Sandhu- 2
Ferreira- 1 or 2
Denommee- 1 or 2
Andreev- 1?
Young or Sawyer might get sent out if they look good over the summer.
LADIES
Robinson- 2
Bellemare- 2
Rochette- 2
Watt, Gosselin, Currie, and Dubuc might have to prove themselves over the summer in training and competition in order to get anything.
PAIRS
Langlois/Archetto- 2 or 3
Lariviere/Faustino- 2 or 3
Probably some new teams (Marcoux/Wirtz, who else?) could get assignments...maybe Purdy/Maguire if they are still together. Maybe Trombley/Sturdy (he's 20 in October, she's 15) and Montgomery/Arnold (18 and 17) could go?
DANCE
Bourne/Kraatz- 2 or 3
Dubreuil/Lauzon- 2
Wing/Lowe- 2
Piche/Denis- 1 or 2
Doherty/Myles, Girard/Innes, Flynn/Gislason, Longpre/Zukiwsky, and the Moirs could all possibly be competing for an extra spot or 2...
So I expect that when the list IS published, there will be a lot of TBD's on it...though I guess you never know.

Haribobo, I was under the impression that Girard/Innes and the Moirs had split/retired. Does anyone have any news regarding Girard and Danny Moir's search for new partners?

ooh 3 weeks...ok I can manage that long.
for men I was thinking
Sandhu, Buttle and Ferreira would get 2 and Fedor and Denommee would each get one.
Shawn Sawyer would be back on the JGP I figured.

Last I heard, Danny Moir was going to Barrie to train with Christina Lenko!
I don't know how correct that is though......

Sparkey -- I heard that Mylene Girard is now skating with Andrew Wernham, and that Danny Moir is skating with Christina Lenko, but I'm not positive that either is true.

I can say yes Wernham and Girard are now together, 100%

I heard early this week (from a dance coach) that Mattieu Tanguay (4th in Junior Dance in 2002) split with his new partner, Kallie Canada, and is actively searching for a replacement. He wants someone around 5 foot to 5 foot 3.
I also heard, from the same coach, that Andrew Wernham has just split with Mylene, and will be or is lookng for someone new.
Usually this particular coach has accurate info.

lotusland - does that mean that Mylene Girard is looking for another partner too? I thought she was wonderful with Brian Innes and was hoping we would see them in the senior ranks in upcoming years. While it is nice that the top senior teams stay eliglble for so long - it must be discouraging to the younger teams as it makes it difficult to go from junior to senior and skate more than domestically.

Francis71,
Sorry I don't know what Mylene is going to do. I too would hope that she partners up with someone. She is a lovely, and expressive, dancer. I would be disappointed if she wasn't able to, or didn't want to, continue.
I have often thought the same thing about the dance teams. Everyone seems to be in such a big hurry to move ahead to the Senior ranks, but what for? It is really just a big parking lot, with everyone waiting their turn until the top teams decide to retire. Aside from Shae-Lynn and Victor bursting onto the scene, first in Juniors then the next year in Seniors ... my memory can't recall another team who has catapulted to the top. I often wondered if that was why Brenda Key & Ryan Smith (Junior Champs) packed it in so early after moving into the Senior level?

There's a list of GP assignments from the Russian Press now up on FSU.
Very perliminary and I expect some things to change before the Grand Prix actually gets started but the assignments listed for Canada look like this:
Sandhu: SA, SC
Buttle: SC, NHK
Denommee: SA, SC
Ferriara: NC, Lalique
Andreev: Cup of Russia
Robinson: SC, NC
Bellemare: SA, SC
Rochette: Lalique, NHK
Watt: SA, Cup of Russia
Gosselin: SC
Dance:
B&K: SA, SC, Lalique
D&L: NC, NHK
W&L: SC, CoR
Piche & Denis: SA
Pairs:
L&F: SC, NC, CoR
L&A: SA, SC, NHK
I would expect some of the new pair teams to maybe get an assignment or two as there is room at Skate America, Skate Canada and Lalique for a Canadian team.

No Yagudin at Skate America? Only Skate Canada and NHK. (So far)

If Michelle Kwan does compete, the ladies comp. at Skate America should be very interesting. I almost wish I'd gotten tix. Oh well, I'll have to wait until next year when it comes to my side of the country.
I'm surprised Sarah Hughes is assigned to Nations Cup and not Skate Canada. I would assume she, like MK, would want to stay in North Am. for the convenience, and since she's Olympic champ and Skate Canada champ, I figured she'd be there. Well, I suppose it's only a preliminary list, since I don't yet see anything on the USFSA web site.

i hope all of those are true, and i hope alot of them dont pull out like usual.
I have a feeling that Nadine Gosselin will not be getting any assignments...a have a hunch that Marianne Dubuc will get the assignment instead.
Am I the only one upset about Dubreuil and Lauzon? This is supposed to be their season and they get only two GP events? aren't they supposed to be the 'team' once Bourne and Kraatz retire? how are the judges going to notice their new look in just two events.

Only the top six dance teams from the previous world championships are allowed to do three events. Since that is not Marie & Patrice, they will only be able to compete in two events.
In pairs it is different. There are so few senior pair teams in the world, the ISU allows pretty much all the top pair teams to compete at 3 events so that's why both L&A and L&F will be doing three events.

Looks like a great line up for Skate Canada!
Why only one event for Piche & Denis? Hope to see a couple more Cdn pairs with assignments.

i think as the season progresses and skaters announce whether they will or even want to compete at certain places, we will see a wider variety of north american competitors, rather that just the traditional top 4 or 5. it usually happens every season, especially after an olympic year when their are less skaters to fill the spots.

Why is Nadine Gosselin going to Skate Canada?? I was expecting to see Skate Canada assign one of it's 'darlings' right now like Joannie Rochette or even Nicole Watt. I'm disappointed with the selection and hope it changes. Also hoping that Marianne will get an assignment, somehow...

I heard that Gosselin got the Skate Canada assignment cause she is from Quebec City. Also, I got the impression that Skate Canada (the org) wants Rochette to make her senior grand prix debut in Europe, away from the hype and expectations of having her skate in Quebec.
I haven't heard anything about Dubuc's status for any internationals. My guess is that she'll be monitored for B internationals along with Michelle Currie.

Skate Canada was supposed to make a trip to the Cricket Club either this past week, or at the latest next week, to see how the 2003 Wirtz teams are progressing.
They would be monitoring four senior teams: Ian Moram & Meredith Leedle, Sean Wirtz & Val Marcoux, Craig Buntin & Liz Putnam, and Meeran Trombley & Ryan Shollert .
Chantal Poirier at last count, was going to help out Jesse Sturdy (Jrs last season with Meeran Trombley) until the coach finds him a new partner. Chantal, it seems has decided to work on improving her singles skating and will compete in that format for 2003.
So, we could see any one (or more) of those for teams getting an assignment or two.

Sorry lotusland. You are way off here. You'll have to pay more attention at the rink!

Both these theories make sense -- last year, Nicole Watt got SC because she was the hometown girl in Saskatoon.
There are high hopes for Rochette -- having her get her feet wet away the the glare and hype of the Cdn media is probably a good thing.

Does anyone else like Michelle Currie? I really like her skating, too bad for that injury she had a couple of years ago... I really thought she would give Jen a run for her money over the last couple of years.... before the injury Michelle was a solid skater.
Michelle Currie is a good skater..I was impressed with her practises at Nationals but unfortunately at competition time, she missed most jumps. I hope she comes back next season stronger.
