Another article where you have to register before reading, but from the quotes I've read on another board, Michael should
really get over that little confidence problem he's been having lately.

Nothing like being ready for the big event...Weiss's wife Lisa, meantime, is in charge of renting a 24-person Hummer limousine for the night of the men's long program. When Weiss wins -- not if, but when -- he and a few invited guests will travel to Atlantic City for a night of celebration. The idea is to create the expectation, the atmosphere of winning -- then do it.

"When I win, probably ABC [TV] will be sitting in the Hummer with me," Weiss said matter-of-factly, both hands gripping the steering wheel of his black BMW with WICE 2 Virginia plates as he sped down Interstate 66.

I will be praying hard for Plushenko, Goeble, and Abt to make the podium and for the French, Swiss and Chinese to take at least 4th, 5th and 6th.

Ugh..is this guy for real? He's really lost it now. Maybe him and Sean Puffy Combs should hang out together. I'm hoping he really gets trounced at worlds. I'm not one to wish bad on others, but I am seeing into the future...where Michael is a has been and can't get onto a tour to save his life. He really should learn the word "modesty". What goes around, comes around.

I think i need the toilet..I feel sick

I think the world's with you on that note... Whether you prefer Plush or Yags (or both or neither), having them compete together makes for awesome competition. Not sure how Mike thinks he figures into that picture...can you say 'delusions of grandeur'??

hehe maybe he will land his trademark quad lutz here ;)
hehehehe the only way Mikey can win is if he gets really lucky
like he did at nationals or just uses some good old voodoo dolls hehe

I don't like this skaters attitude. Don't care for his skating much either. I guess it's fair to say I just don't like anything here. I try not to be an unkind soul, so my negative attitude here speaks volumes.

Me too!!! I've never cared much for MikePike Weiss, and the more I hear from his "camp" the more I dislike him/them!
Not that I wish for bad results for certain skaters, but.......

There are some skaters that just defy you to like them, aren't there.
I haven't seen anything in this guy's skating that should make him run out and rent a hummer.

I'm waaaay past disliking Mike and have moved on to just feeling sorry for the guy. He's setting himself up for a HUGE disappointment (not to mention embarrassment - I can't believe he told the press about this Hummer rental!) All I can say is, he's very lucky to have a sweet lady like Lisa to give him moral support...after Worlds, he's gonna need all he can get.

It's statements like these that make me wonder if Michael Weiss was dropped on his head as a child.

Add Honda to that battle in the top 3. Let's not forget Buttle and Sandhu and Klimkin to fill out at least that 7th or 8th or 9th place before Mike even gets a chance to hit the top 10.

You know who I feel sorry for the most in this whole saga is? Weiss' new coach, Tim Woods ..... he's already tried to do the damage control thing at Nationals when Mike was complaining about his placement in the short .. which of course, was due to his own fault. And Woods owned up to it for Weiss, but now with these kind of remarks .. I wouldn't want to be associated with a skater like that if I was Woods.

Isn't his coach Don Laws? I have never been able to reconcile Mike in person, at practices, taking time to sign autographs, so sweet and lovely and NICE with the guy he becomes when he is interviewed. IT is shocking to me. I suspect he is trying to convince himself more than any other person. I think he is setting himself up for some serious sadness

This guy is thinking too high of himself. It's time for him to be modest!!! It's about time to get some lessons from Michelle or Sarah!

LoL ... it could be Don Laws ..... I don't know why Tim Woods came up ..... is he even a coach? LOL. But I think you know who I'm talking about so the idea is across :) heheh.

What do they do with the Hummer after he loses? Drive it into the Potomac? If this is the kind of sports psychology they're paying for, the boy needs to get a different doctor. Yow. Mr. Weiss, the doctor will see you now. It's one thing to be confident, it's another thing entirely to act like a male skater version of Nellie Olsen. Maybe he thinks because it's in his backyard he's guaranteed a win? I am continually aghast at some of the things this crew comes up with. Where's Todd when you need him!

While I tend to question Mike's preparation tactics & some of the things he says myself, along with some of the choices he makes, in the end I agree with Frank Carroll's assessment.

It's hard to distinguish the real Mike anymore. Is he really the "nice" guy that he appears to be in public or is he the arrogant fool that too often comes across in interviews? Mike has been doing interviews too long not to know that what he says in the press can reflect negatively on him. My assumption is that the real Mike is some where in between: a nice guy but with enough arrogance about his skating talent to make him unattractive.

I'll vote 15% "nice guy"; 85% "arrogant fool".

Oh Mike! I so wish he understood the value of zipping his lips!

I've also met Mike several times and he has been very sweet, approachable and not at all arogant. I think it is his evil twin doing the interviews!

Two basic rules about trash talking:

1) If you give it, you gotta take it.

2) Wear overalls and carry a shove.

Excuse me, gotta look at a new Ground Force episode. ;)

I don't think Mike is a bad guy. It just seems he has no interpersonal skills to know that, even if you think these things, you don't say them in public. He would do better to use those techniques to visualize the best performance of his career and then let the chips falls where they may. Then he and his entourage could still have the party to celebrate a wonderful performance and toast his eligible career. I feel sorry for him. He wants to be liked so much.

I'm with Babyskates. I've met Mike twice and he couldn't be nicer, or more gracious to skating fans and his competitors. But this crap makes you wonder, give it up already!

Humility is easier to accept than arrogance. And it doesn't matter which sport you are talking about, I admire a aw-shucks ballplayer as much as an aw-shucks figure skater.

no, anke, you are definitely not the only one.

i only have tickets for the ladies LP. however, if yags were competing at worlds, i definitely would have bought tkts for the mens LP as well. i didnt because, frankly, i dont think there is any question as to who will win Worlds. plushenko has no real competition IMO...no one who is as consistent, nor anyone who is as talented. only yags is his true competitor.

ITA on that one. The last time we had something like the Yagudin/Plushenko rivalry was way back in the day with the two B's.

Even if most people have already given the title to Evgeny, the men competition is still worth watching for skaters that we rarely get to see on TV. I'm really looking forward to watching the Swiss Lambert (?) for his amazing spinning ability. Actually with the war going on I'm not sure how much of skating will be pre-empted next week from TV so I'm really glad I'll get a chance to watch skating live the entire week. I will even sit through most of the dance compulsaries.

His father did drop him from the rings as a child.

I agree with what others say. I met Michael at the GWG in Brisbane and he was very nice. His spin (not the skating kind) on the other hand is just ridiculous.

Obviously the Mikey School of Humility is back open for business.
