Hey guys...I couldn't get this on as a reply to Sasha is Devine's thread. But just wanted toannouce that Sasha Cohen won the Gold at the Worlds on TV. this afternoon. Beating out Irena Sluthskia (sorry, I know that's not spelled right). Sasha didn't skate clean. But the judges loved her anyway. I will be seeing her tonight in Simsbury. I hope I get to meet skaters. Please wish FSWer luck?

I think you mean the GPFinal

Sasha didn't win the gold at Worlds today. The World Championships do not start until Monday, March 24th. We won't know who won the ladies World title until late Saturday, March 29th.

What you saw today was the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. She certainly did skate well at that competition and if she keeps it together, she may very well win Worlds in just 2 weeks. :)

If they do things the same way they used to there, your only chance to meet anybody would be to hang around for quite awhile after the show. There are ways to get out of the rink without walking through where the fans wait, so it's pretty much up to the skaters. I remember watching people wait for almost ninety minutes for Tara Lipinski one time, only to be told she had left already. Obviously, you can't get backstage without the proper credentials. I remember once or twice they let people go upstairs after the show for a meet-and-greet; again, some skaters went, some didn't, and I don't think they're doing that anymore, although I'm not sure. They didn't usually start letting people up until about an hour, maybe longer, after the show ended anyway.

The ladies competition was okay but
nothing spectacular ala Plushenko, his program was really good and
his 4-3-3 was amazing.

Sasha skated well with 5 clean triples and said it better be perfect by worlds when she competes against the other top ladies at worlds.

I was sad for Irina, it wasn't a good performance at all for her but seeing how her mother collapsed in her arms right before the LP final I can see why she didn't slkate well and only hope she does better at worlds. It's great to see that her mother is out of the hospital and doing much better and I'm sure she'll do much better at worlds.

BTW,
I love Dick, but he and company were grating on my last nerve today, especially Peggy. I couldn't believe they were setting up a Sasha was robbed sequence, only for her to finish a solid second behind Sasha.
IMO, both's marks were generous for their performances and I usually don't stick up for Irina but they were really tearing into her.

6, the salchow was clean - she buckled on the landing making ice spray up but the free leg went up and out perfectly.

Also FSWer, just a reminder it's not a good idea to post results in the title of your new thread. Some people like to wait until they get to watch without being spoiled.

Hope you have fun at Simsbury! Make sure to tell us all about it. :)

Sasha landed 6 clean triples. In fact, every one of her jumps was steller in every way except the salchow, where she seemed to lose the edge on the landing for a second...a very slight deduction, if any, and the loop, which she singled

3 lutz/2 tl
3 lutz
3 toe loop
3 flip
3 sal
3 sal/3 tl
1 loop
2 axel

Except that she is still flutzing to varying degrees...
