Well it has finally happened. MLB is offering live tv feeds of games for the upcoming season. It will cost $80 per season or $15 per month.

Read all about it..there are some restrictions in order to preserve broadcast rights, but basically you can watch any game but your own home town if you are in your home town. (Hope that makes sense.) So if you are on the road or your favorite team is the Yankees and you live in Tulsa you can watch them on your computer.

Considering that most skating events are not broadcast live, I would think that this would only add to the tv audience if ABC were to begin looking into this for next year. I can also think of many smaller sports where they could broadcast the event, meet &/or game over the internet to those that do not have the ability to view or attend the event. It could only help the sport. Especially if they could develop a way to bundle the advertising sales, but that opens a whole other can of worms with the actors unions etc.

At least the US is beginning to move forward in live sports online. Personally I think it is only a matter of time before the sports fan insists on this media as the norm for many sports.
