... moderators and/or commentators in the future?
Because I'm living out of Northamerica I don't have the same input about who has kinda presence behind a mic and who not. So what do you think? And what about the Russian skaters? How well is their English?
Please don't let me die stupid! :D
Adrian and company will not let you die;)

Tanith Belbin comes across as very well spoken and certainly would look great on camera.

Jamie Sale & David Pelletier! ;)
SOI did the smart thing by having them do intros this year for all the skaters on the TV version.

Well he's not "current" any more but ... Elvis. He's done some commentary in the past and been great. I'm really looking forward to his comments at Worlds this year (I think he's only doing the men's event).

I think Jennifer Robinson would make an excellent commentator/journalist type.. she comes off as very polite and well-spoken in her interviews and I read somewhere that she was interested in going into Journalism/Communications. :)

I believe Michelle Kwan has expressed some interest in commentating once she's done skating. I think she'd be great!

I think Todd Eldredge would make a very good commentator. He has a really nice voice.

I agree. He has a very clear, articulate voice during the SOI's "You'll be the judge" number so I think he'll make a good commentator one day. I do miss Brian B commentating on ABC though.
Judging from her TV interviews I don't think MK is a natural public speaker yet. I'm sure with coaching she can do it. Hey if Roz Sumners can do it, why can't MK?

I agree with Artemis about Elvis. He always comes across well on tv. I'd like to see him do the commentating on the ladies as well. Another male skater (who hasn't been mentioned yet) is Alexei Yagudin. He would probably do very well.
Wouldn't you love to see Pasha Grishuk commentate on the ice dancing?

Katie Lee. If anyone has ever talked with her, they'll definitely agree with me that she'd be perfect for television journalism. She has an extremely well controlled & well paced voice and has a very pleasant demeanor. :)
Watch out, she'll be anchoring the news pretty soon. :P

He commentated for Lifetime's coverage of Junior Worlds a few years ago and he wasn't bad for a first time out. I haven't heard him do any commentary since then, but I'd guess he's still interested in it.

Alexei Yagudin was mentioned before. I agree. Yesterday I received a tape with several topical Alexei-"performances" and among other things there was a studio interview along with Rod Black (?) and Debbie Wilkes (?) at the Sears Open last year. It's amazing how natural he acts in front of a camera, professional and refreshing/funny at the same time. This guy is an entertainer off the ice as well and for sure he likes that kind of attention. His English is unbelievable fluent and that little Russian accent only works for him. Sometimes I really got the impression HE was actually the host of it all and Rod and Debbie were HIS guests ...
What I'm trying to say is ... if he actually manages to get a little bit more serious, to stay in the background and pipe down from time to time and listen to others (I'm sure the last two attributes would be the toughest for him ... ) he could become a pretty competent and quite amusing commentator/moderator.
On the other hand - if I'm thinking about it properly - I'd rather prefer to watch him on ice for many years instead. :)

ITA- Todd does have a great voice and a passion for the sport. I think he'd make a fine commentator.

i think Jamie nad David would be great, although since commentators can be realy annoying and i think they know that they would hopefully keep the chatter down to a minimum, but Elvis as well and Tanith Belbin, I can see those guys doing that too!

I wouldn't know until I see them give it a try...and as compared by my favorite commentator, Paul Wylie:
Todd was ok...not very able to educate on the moment, however, but that could come with time and experience;
Katia Gordeeva at Nagano for pairs with Scott Hamilton was great, but despite the fact I learned more from her about pairs skating in those few moments than I ever had, she was very nervous...its an issue of confidence with her, I think, but now that she has been in America so long, I'd like to see her give it another try to see if she is still that nervous...I adore her so much, and she is so lovely to look at...
I agree with those who like Yagudin...there is something about that guy that one just likes...he seems very sweet, smart yet totally unassuming, and kind of FIERCE at the same time...really nice combo for a guy.
Jamie and David are very quick on the trigger, smart both of them, and that helps a lot in such a job.
It all might be moot in the US since no one ever seems to retire from commentating, LOL!
