View Full Version : where is Miyoko Ohtake??? (Canada)
Whatever happened to Miyoko--is she not competing anymore?
She was coming up strong on the junior scene in Canada a couple of years ago-just curious about what happened-school, is she now coaching somewhere???

Miyoko Ohtake retired shortly after 2002 Canadians (she finished tied for 27th in senior ladies) and, last I heard, is enjoying her studies at the University of Toronto. She once told me that her most enjoyable competition experience was at 2001 Triglav Trophy in Slovenia where she won the Junior ladies' bronze medal (behind USA's Alissa Czisny and Kelsey Drewel). I don't know if she is still involved in skating, but perhaps someone else might know?

Miyoko was very content with retiring from skating after last year's Canadians and excited about entering the University of Toronto. She has been coaching up there as well, IIRC at Sport Seneca but I could be mistaken. I haven't talked to her in a bit but judging that her away message often says "coaching at the rink" she seems to have stayed quite involved.
To clear things up, Miyoko never did have a 3-axel but had a lovely 2-axel and at least to 3-loop pretty consistent. I did hear rumors of *practicing* the 3axel, and with the excellent technique I remember from her it could've been true. I know I saw some 3-flip and 3-lutzes when she came to my rink a while back (and brought her adorable bf!) but I missed quals at Canadians last year so I hadn't seen her skate in a while before she retired.
She is a sweet girl and I hope to see her and her fam at my club's banquet again this year!

Miyoko was practicing and landing triple axels...they were huge!!! Her jumps were amazing, and so high. I was talking to her a little while ago, and she's still at U of T, and involved in skating, but she did quit after last years Nats.
She did have all her triples mostly consistent in practice, and 3toe/3toe as well.

It appears as though she is still skating for University of Toronto
