Basically this new program is geared towards Athens Olympians and other high performance athletes.

"SPORT CANADA
-* Monthly stipend of $1,100 available for athletes ranked in world's top 16 in individual sports, top eight or top four in team sports."

I wonder if Worlds results are used for this or the ISU World Ranking system. It is weird that someone like Ben Ferreira would get $1,100 for placing 15th at worlds, but Langlois & Archetto do not get this kind of money when they placed 10th.

"CANADIAN OLYMPIC COMMITTEE
-* Total of $13.3-million for high-performance athletes and Games.
-* New Excellence Fund of $8.7-million for 2003 and 2004, $4.8-million directed toward Athens Olympic athletes and $2.9-million of that focused on athletes ranked in top five in world."

Again, I wonder what is used for skating rankings.

"CORPORATE SUPPORT, PRIVATE PROGRAMS
A sampling of some major corporate programs:
-* Dairy Farmers of Canada Pure Determination Fund. Twenty annual awards of $10,000 geared to getting athletes into top six in the world. Must be making less than $75,000 a year to be eligible."

Emanuel Sandhu was a recepient of this award last year.

Pairs and dance teams are treated the same as single skaters in terms of Sport Canada funding. Teams means team sports like hockey, volleyball, etc.

More information on the Athlete Assistance Program can be found here (http://www.pch.gc.ca/progs/sc/prog/paa-aap/info_e.cfm).

Information on how Skate Canada funds its athletes can be found here (http://www.skatecanada.ca/english/programs/funding/text.html).

AAP funding from Sport Canada is handed out to skaters as shown in the table on this (http://www.skatecanada.ca/english/programs/funding/high.html) table.
