does anyone have info on this???

3les the other way????

any elements in those areas.... please get back to me on this... i want to know because i think it is interesting to follow who is trying to raise the bar....

Zhang/Zhang from China (at Jr Worlds right now) have completed a quad twist in the last few years. Obertas/Sokolov from Russia do the throw triple flip.

Rohene Ward from Chicago can do up to triple lutz the "other" way (he jumps CW so other is CCW for him). If you hear of any skaters who have passed ISI 9 or 10 then they can do at least double the "other" way. I believe Katie Lee is one of them.

I haven't heard of any quad-quads but weren't both Yagudin and Plushenko working on the quad loop or flip a while back?

I personally would like to see the lateral twist come back.

I don't believe Rohene has attempted the reverse 3lutz in competition yet, but I did see him a land a reverse (clockwise for him) 3loop in practice last summer. At Midwestern Sectionals last November, Rohene had in his FS a reverse (CW) double axel sequence into a regular (CCW) 3flip (stepped out) and he has landed reverse 2axel into regular 3salchow in competition in the past.

The one who comes to my mind, because I've seen her compete several times locally, is Tiffany St. Bernard in the New England region. She was New England senior champ this season and is only about 15 or 16; I've read that she passed her ISI level 10 test a couple of years ago (and was one of the youngest skaters ever to do that, if not the youngest). Last season she was attempting a sequence that included a single axel in the regular direction, reverse single axel, and regular double axel. It was pretty cool when she landed it. This year her programs were a lot more USFSA-friendly, which meant better competitive results but not so many unique elements.

Just an FYI:

ISI Freestyle 10 gives the option of doing reverse jumps OR standard triples. I know people who passed it with triples and no reverse jumps so just because a person passed ISI 10, it doesn't automatically mean they can do jumps in both directions.

ISI is the International Skating Institue. It's a recreational skating program that began in the US and has spread around the world.

I can't imagine how one goes about learning to jump in both directions. I guess you have to be taught that as a tiny tot before you develop a preference for cw or ccw. I wonder why coaches don't teach that?

as far as unique elements that aren't jumps, I like Abt and Klimkin myself.

Well, personally I learned single salchows in both diesctions as an adult, because I jump CW and I was teaching a group that all jumped CCW. It wasn't that hard. A couple of the kids I skate with taught themselves to do several single jumps in both directions, too.

I don't know how many truly "unique" elements there are to be done. Even quads aren't really unique; they're just harder versions of jumps everyone learned. I'd call the hydroblading stunts that were invented a few years back as pretty unique because nobody have ever done postitions and gliding like that before. Beilman's spin was unique when she first did it and Ina and Zimmerman's candlestick lift was pretty original, wasn't it? The dancers seem to be the ones coming up with unique positions and carry lifts these days, although in a lot of cases there, I can't say that unique is asthetically pleasing to my eyes.

But I guess it depends on your definition of unique.

I can spin in both directions pretty easily, and I used to be able to do up to a single lutz CW - I could probably only do up to salchow now. I jump CCW now and have landed up to a double loop. I think it's a matter of how you're taught and how you want to skate. I have trouble with my "regular" forwards camel sometimes after practicing the "other" way flying camel, because the positions are so subtle they are a bit confusing. I can't do a layback at all CCW. The more you practice something, the better it will get, even if it's the "other" way.
