If Michelle is planning on competing next year with a coach, wouldn't she have selected one by now so they can work together to become familar with each other's habits? I wonder if she is planning on working with someone or not. Just curious for news in the drought of the off season.

I am surprised that there hasn't been any rumours or speculations about this. Someone must know something. Even a false rumour would be kind of fun.

Does anyone think Michelle will have a new coach by the start of the skating season? I was hoping she'd have one by now.

There have been plenty of rumors... The most commonly cited so far have been Doug Leigh, Rafael Arutunian, and Peter Oppegard. But really, has Michelle even given any clear indication if she is even going to compete this season?

She does [b:bad4d2b456]not[/b:bad4d2b456] have a new coach as of now nor is she sure that she will compete next year.

Dustin: How do you know?

P.S. What you said wouldn't surprise me, but I haven't seen anything concrete re Kwan, her decision to compete or not compete next season, or her coaching situation.

Olivia - check PMs. I don't want to post how I know in public for MKs privacy.

As one Kwan-hating poster and self-declared insider has so gleefully informed the posters of Free Skate World, no reputable coach will touch Kwan with a twenty foot pole out of respect to Frank Carroll. If that is true, it looks like the only choice she has for a coach would be her sister or future brother in law, or as this "insider" says, her daddy. That is, if she chooses to stick around since I'm told the entire skating world hates her guts.
[i:90c784232f]Can we try not to drag over the dirty laundry from elsewhere? Its fine to made reference to what was said - but let's leave the character judgements out. If you have a problem with whomever posted stuffs elsewhere, tell the board admin or discuss it there. Thanks. -adrianchew-[/i:90c784232f]
I just went to Free Skate World and couldn't find any such post.

Nor is it true that no one else would coach her out of respect for Frank. Ridiculous.
Skaters change coaches all the time. What would be unethical is if a coach "steals" a skater away from another coach. Which is not the case here.

It should be in the Romper Room section and the thread is called "What's so special about Michelle Kwan?"

I have no specific info either, but I wouldn't be surprised if she gives this year a pass, given that she's about the only eligible skater doing the entire COI tour this year. I can't imagine how tired she will be at the end after the exhaustion of the Olympic year on top of that.
I hope she takes her time, and if she wants to go full-time to UCLA next year, that she does it. If she wants to skate a "minimum" schedule (2 GPs, a couple of pro-ams, no Nationals or Worlds) that she does that.
If anyone has earned some real time off, it is Michelle!
The post was indeed in the Romper Room section- I never thought to look there.

Should Michelle want a new coach, one she will get! She is a big name and most would be giddy just thinking about working with her. Putting her name on their resumes would increase their stock with the skating world and oh boy could then then increase their fees.
But MK will pick and choose and that is her right to do so. If she wants to change coaches so what? Others do it on a very regular basis. In fact, Didn't Timmy change from one big name to another ( like Frank Carroll?).

That, of course is true. However, Michelle did not simply change coaches. Michelle dumped her long time coach in a very public forum, at the beginning of what should have been her pinnacle year. Not nice.
I have no idea whether the coaching community is closing ranks in respect to Frank, or not, but let us not lose site of the facts. Michelle did not just make a coaching change.
As far as any coach being happy to have Michelle, on the one hand, yes, but only if they are successful with Michelle. I wouldn't want to be the coach who took Michelle on as a student, and discovered she was worse (not better) for my efforts.
Michelle is not in the same position as say a Timothy Goebel or Jenny Kirk, who can make a coaching change, and spend a year or two in the "working on" mode. She is too famous and too much of an icon for that. I don't know that a coach would be all to anxious to take that on.

Free Skate World? Where is that? Is that another euphemism for "F$W"?

What I'd like to know is in what public forum did Michelle "dump" her coach? (Gee, I thought she told him in a private one-on-one setting.) And, what control exactly did Michelle have over the media frenzy that followed her "public forum dumping" of Frank Carroll? (Gee, I thought both Michelle and Frank were pretty close-mouthed about the situation. You can count the quotes between them on your left hand.)
Truth is, Michelle is scrutinized to the nth degree regardless of what she does or how she does it. I think it's fine to have an opinion on whether or not [b:ecbf80b23d]you think [/b:ecbf80b23d]Michelle should have ended her working relatioship with Frank, but, at the end of the day, none of us know why Michelle thought it was necessary. None of us were in her shoes (skates).
