Story here (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/02/13/earlyshow/leisure/celebspot/main540474.shtml) Also a link to the video of the interview itself.

Recap of the controvery, discussion of what they've done since, focus on SOI, etc. Also has bits with B&S, Sandra Bezic, and Kurt. (And a hilarious bit during Sandra's interview ... well I won't spoil it, I'll let you see it for yourself.)

quote from the article:

Before the scandal turned the Salt Lake City Olympic games upside down, they were just Canada's entry in the pairs skating competition. Then their performance wowed the crowds, and the judging controversy made them instant stars.

end of quote.

What a bunch of BS that is! "controversy made them instant stars"...like they hadn't been winning just about every competition in sight!!!

LOL, Anton is definitely a goof!

I was too lazy to get up this morning and watch so it was nice to see it online.

I like the quote about the difference between rich and wealthy!

Actually Ladynit, They may have been stars WITHIN the skating world before, but wins don't necessarily make you a star OUTSIDE that, and that's what the quote refers to. Except for in Canada, I don't think that S/P were considered "Stars" before SLC. Remember, we skatefans have a somewhat different idea of a"Star" than the average person, who probably only watches skating at the Olympics , and maybe an occasional COI or SOI.

I'm still having a hard time believing that they're happy with what happened with their professional career right after the Olympics. Their agent messed up, and they ended up doing nothing other than their show in Edmonton. I know that they say that they needed time to relax, and maybe they weren't ready for SOI yet, and were bucking the established post Olympics route but it could have been much better for them. They don't say anything negative about their agent and I find that false.

Wish they were still competing as eligible skaters, I still feel they could continue to grow.

Oh, Anton had me cracking up... I seen it on tv, and knew it was Anton immediately.. He reminds me of a little brat, who has you laughing instead of getting upset with them... 8-)

Well, what would you have them say!?! If they said anything at all about their agent, they'd be crucified online. If they didn't, well....They're being criticized by not saying anything. By not saying anything about their previous agent shows they are two very classy people. They had the chance to say something, they didn't, let it go.

As for them being happy w/their Pro lives. Well, they are. So what!?! What happened last summer happened *last summer*. It might have been a mistake, maybe it was the best thing Jamie and David needed....We don't know that. The only people who do are Jamie and David and they've decided to turn into a positive. If only more people thought like that what a better world this would be.

Unfortunately, I found out about this interview too late for me to set my VCR to tape it, so I was really happy to be able to watch it online! :)

While part of me still wishes S&P would have stayed eligible for a couple more years (after seeing them compete at Canadian Open and the Hallmark Skating Championships, I'd say they still have what it takes to win at least a few more world titles), I completely understand why S&P themselves would feel differently. :) Even though they've only skated together for a relatively short time, a lot of people tend to forget they've both competed with other partners and as solo skaters for many years before that. Jamie competed at her first Worlds (and Olympics) in 1994; David went to his first Worlds in 1995. I'd say they've more than paid their dues at the eligible level! :)

And considering Jamie said at least three or four times at 2002 Canadian Open that she doesn't even like hearing the word "competition" anymore, I'd say she and David don't regret the choice they've made, either! No matter what happened between them and their former agent, they've moved on, got a great deal with SOI, and are now touring across North America and having a blast. It doesn't sound like they have much to be unhappy about to me! :)

I highly doubt Sale and Pelletier or Craig Fenech are reading this.

Maybe I'll ask the question this way: Was Craig Fenech ready for the skating world?

It would be nice actually for skaters to have an option to create another alternative to the IMG/SOI (ahem) union, the intentions were good, the timing was not right.

I completely agree with Tigger, I think they way they've handled things totally shows their class and dignity. Whatever they're problems were they obviously solved them, and are happy now and i think thats all that matters. Also about they're pro career this summer they didn't just do nothing, I mean yes for a little they may have had some down time, but they did charity work, speaking at schools, golf tourneys, public speaking, plus sponser ship appearances. I'd say they had an evenful summer. I mean Jamie even said they've almost never had a summer off, so i think they desevered it.
