Say,you hear the expression "Toe Pick" used a lot. But what exactly does it mean? Does anyone know? Thanks.

It's when you catch your picks in the ice and fall face-first -- usually whacking the daylights out of your knees or worse. Using the phrase to describe that type of fall became more 'mainstream' because it was used in the film "The Cutting Edge."

However you should always say it in a sing-songy type voice - gives a certain special quality to it. Toooooooeeeee Piiiiiicccckkkk!!!

Toe picks are those teethy looking things on the front of the blade...and the bottom one, in particular is very easy to catch in the ice...some rinks shave that one off for public rink skaters.

There's also "toe-pick" the verb.
My coach can be heard saying "Stop toe-picking!" when skaters push off (or skate) using their toepicks instead of the inside of the blade.

I've also heard it used as follows:

"She toe-picked in for her double flip."
