Not an easy site to find what you're looking for, you sometimes have to skim a lot of "ISU Communications" before you find the right one.

Does anyone have a video of the Midnight Blues? I would love to get a copy.
Thanks for the information about the CDs for next season.

I don't have one (I wish) but I did see it competed last summer. It has the potential to be a stunning dance, there are some cool highlights (like a pair bauer glide, an inverse spiral), but the tempo is very slow. Anyway, you might check to see if Video Productions East which did the competitor videos for the Lake Placid Competition will sell you one.
Might be easier to order one from the ISU:
An instructional video for the Midnight Blues with commentary in English has been sent to every Member. Included in this video are demonstrations of all steps, turns and dance positions to provide a useful visual aid for coaches, Skaters and Judges. In addition the written description and diagrams (which will be published in the Special Regulations Ice Dance 2002) are included.
Additional copies may be ordered from:

I heard they were changing the Novice dances. Does anyone know what they are going to be?

I have heard that the ISU has changed two of the junior CDs for this year. The Austrian Waltz and Killian have been replaced with the Vienese Waltz and the Quickstep. This information was based on an ISU memo that was handed out at the end of Worlds, and I trying to find a confirmation of this. I did check the ISU website, but they don't have it listed there. JK

Works for me- I like the Quick a LOT better than the Kilian, and I haven't learned the Austrian yet, but I watched some senior teams at my rink do it and I have no intention of trying it anytime soon. I think what happened was the ISU decided after using it for a few seasons that the Austrian was just too hard for Junior and will now be done only at Senior. I could have that wrong, though, I don't remember where I heard it.
I hadn't heard anything about the Novice dances being changed. Has anyone else heard that?

The Austrian has been switched to Senior and the Viennese has been switched to Junior. This was confirmed at Worlds.
ODs are rock'n roll, jive, boogy woogy, swing, blues, etc.

I've got a question for the dance experts. IN senior events, there are four compulsory dances but only two are competed.
How far in advance are the two dances announced?

From the Governing Council 2003 Dance Committee:
3. SR 8.03 - Novice Compulsory Dance Selections, page 135 <MOVE> to amend SSR 8.03 the novice compulsory dance groupings as follows:
For each competition season, the following three groups will alternate in the order shown, beginning with Group A for 2003/2004, then moving to Group B for 2004/2005 and Group C for 2005/2006. Of these selections, the asterisked dance, plus one of the remaining dances will be drawn and skated.
Group A European Waltz, Rocker Foxtrot, Paso Doble*
Group B American Waltz, Kilian*, Tango
Group C Starlight Waltz*, Blues, Foxtrot
Rationale: A review of USFSA novice dance groupings was conducted because it was noted that there were significant disparities between USFSA, ISU and Skate Canada selections, to the point that there was only one dance in common that could be used for the 2002/2003 North American Challenge. This review revealed that the dances in the existing groupings were relatively simple and did not reflect the evolving skills of our novice dancers. For that reason, these new groupings which include the Kilian and the Starlight Waltz were devised. Coaches and skaters believe the Starlight Waltz and the Kilian are actually less difficult than the Paso Doble and voted to have these dances added to their required compulsory dances. Several coaches noted that the biggest competitive leap for our skaters is the movement from novice to junior and that the difficulty is related largely to the increased number and difficulty of the compulsory dances. Those coaches believe the greater rigor provided by dances like the Starlight and the Kilian will help make the move between novice and junior a little easier.

Just a questions - were any compulsory dances shown on any coverage over the last season? I would really love to get a copy of anything that is available. Please PM me if you can help.
