I came across this site:

http://www.onedgethefilm.com/index2.htm

It is an independent film. I had heard some things way back when, but totally forgot about the whole thing.
I was wondering, did anyone see this film? What did you think? Do you know whether there's any way to get a copy of it? I'm not sure when the site was last updated.

some random tidbits from the site for those curious:

"Wendy, Veda, and J.C.
are fighting their way to Olympic glory. But first they have to win the
Regional Competition…and there can only be ONE winner.

Will it be Veda (Barret Swatek)? The beautiful ice princess who responds to her over-bearing mother by routinely puking up her lunch?

Or Wendy (Marissa Winokur)? The plus-size skater with the super-plus libido?

And what about J.C.(A.J. Langer)? The orphaned trailer park girl who'd gladly trade you a pack of smokes for a sequined thong?

Under the watchful gaze of Zamboni Phil (Jason Alexander), the girls train, toil and plot their way to success. Let the Games begin!

Scott Hamilton plays a psychotic former skate judge with some bizarre ideas about the world of skating. And former Olympians Kristi Yamaguchi, Peter Carruthers, Randy Gardner, Steven Cousins, and Tai Babilonia let us know what really goes through the judge's minds."

"SCOTT HAMILTON, pictured above (yes that's him) was our savior in his role as skating consultant. He brought to the film skating greats like Tai Babilonia, Kristi Yamaguchi, Steven Cousins, Randy Gardner, and Peter Carruthers pictured below. He convinced his fantastic choreographer, Jamie Isley, to be our fantastic choreographer. And Scott brought to life the character of Ricky Medford, the off-the-wall former skating judge. The filmmakers owe a great debt of thanks to Mr. Hamilton."

Thanks for any info you can provide :)

A few years back I was at the rink one day when parts of it were being filmed there. It looked REALLY cheesy. Of course I'd still love to see it if given the chance.:)

my review: "puke"
sounds worse (if that's possible") than the cutting edge.

however, it has promise as a skating board running ice-soap opera. perhaps the more creative of the ranks here could add chapters to the story via the ol' fashioned story-telling mode.

Scott Hamilton plays a psychotic former skate judge with some bizarre ideas about the world of skating.

So THAT'S what he was doing in SLC when he was supposed to be doing commentary for CBS.

It's all perfectly clear now!

hehe! Yeah, now I'm trying to imagine Scott playing this role in the movie.

It does sound cheesy. However, I think it's supposed to be a parody of the world of competitive figure skating, as you could probably tell from reading the character descriptions. I wish there was some way to gain access to it. Maybe the Ice Channel will show it... Sounds like quality programming. :)

boy, i sure hope it's a parody. if it's as good a parody as "strictly ballroom" it could become a mini-cult movie like "bird cage" or the "rocky horror picture show" or (to a smaller extent) "strictly ballroom." the "cutting edge" wasn't wierd enough to be considered a parody of competitive skating and was just too, too gorpy to be considered amusing.

Did anyone see it when they screened it at the USA film festival a couple of years ago?

Ok, so laugh if you must but I was in line at the store and saw "Cutting Edge" for sale. Thinking it was "On Edge" I bought a copy. Now I know that "On Edge" isn't available because it doesn't have a distributor. I found this out because I was practically laughed out of our rink. Apparently, "On Edge" isn't coming out any time soon.
