Among the changes the ISU just approved is the following: In pairs skating any kind of hold, including unrestricted holds, will now be allowed in the carry.

What exactly are unrestricted holds? How do they differ from the holds we're accustomed to seeing? Does this new rule benefit any particular kind of pair (big/small, new or established)? Are there any pairs we now know who will benefit from this rule change? Any who might not? And how much would iskater charge us for the answers to these questions?

Thanks in advance to all who reply.

Bump.
I want to hear about some holds for carry lifts, also. Can someone explain some different types and how they might be used. Looking for something different, this sounds like just the thing, if only we understood it! 8O

If any hold goes perhaps one like the variation hip axel W&S did in a pro comp where he had one hand on her hip and the the other under her skate blade while her hands were free?

I'm guessing on this...it's a different hold from the norm.

This is an interesting subject matter and I hope that someone in the know can shed soem klight here. However, suppoprted by the hand beneath the skate is not permitted. I am going to have to search for the rule bok on this. Maybe Aaron or Iggles knows about this.

At the GPF Sale & Pelltier got a .1 deduction for him holding her hip in the closing lift/hold at the end of the program. You're not allowed to hold the leg in place like Pelltier did.
