I just watched the ladies event on TSN from NHK. They only showed Irina, Yoshi and Shizuka (no fumie  ) but it completely baffled me that Shizuka was placed below Yoshi and Irina.
I have never seen Yoshi Onda live, and clearly I am missing something in her skating, as Debbi Wilkes continued to comment on her "freshness and lightness". While I saw the complete opposite, laboured jumps, sloppy arms and a terrified expression on her face for 80% of the program not to mention the COMPLETE lack of emotion until the final 8 seconds of the program. Please would someone enlighten me about Yoshi's good qualities that I am obviously overlooking.
And the fact that Irina managed second is obserd. The mistake on the loop, the mistake on the second lutz and a program that I thought was barely at a prenovice level. Though, her 3flip was AMAZING.
I loved Shizuka, her jumps, her knees, her program (the first decent long program ive seen skated to Titanic, after many attempts by others) and a great attempt on the 3/3!
o.k. thats it, i no most of the NHK talk has probably already happened, but I hadnt seen any coverage until now. Just wondering if someone could tell me what is so amazing about Yoshi. :)

I'm not skater like you. And I'm just a begginer FS fun.
So I can't give accurate evaluation.

IMO Yoshie's strength is consistency ,hugh jumps and high speed.
But because of her weakness of presentation, if top Russian, American and Japanese Skaters do their best, she can't win that competition.

I'm tired of reading posts that some north american and a few japanese were slandering/bushing Yoshie.
She is very nice person.
She is known for good work ethic, frankness and smiles (at least off ice).

thanks miki_tan2, though i really wasnt trying to bash yoshi at all, i agree that her consistency and mental toughness has gotten her a long way. and there is no doubt she is an extremely hard worker

I agree with you BC Skater She is a good skater but she is definetly lacking in important areas. I mean she can to the jumps but her landing postitions can be more stronger and I find at the end of the program her hands and arms tend to droop. Its just a sign of poor presentation. Shes actaully not all that exciting to watch aside from her jumps. She consistant and all but she really needs to develop the WOW factor and get the entire package! Again like you, I'm not trying to bash her she definetly has TALENT no doubt but she need to work a little harder on the skating inbetween her actual jumps
