My 10 year old figure skating niece asked me a question yesterday which I did not have the answer to.

Last December she skated at the annual Christmas show at the Hartford Civic center and Sasha was the featured skater. My niece said she did very few jumps which disappointed her because she loves to watch her jump, but it looked like to my niece that her hip was hurting her...

My niece asked me if I knew whether Sasha had injured hip last fall and I told her I didn't know but I would try to find out....

Can anyone tell me yea or nay??

She could have been very tired that night - I believe she skated her exhibition program to One Day I'll Fly Away. This event took place the day after Crest Whitestrips Challenge in Detroit... so Sasha had a competition the night before in Detroit, where she landed 7 triples (one 2-footed), took a flight back and then did the Hartford show.

Adrien, when Sasha was on the Today show (I think it was Today - at least it was morning....) last week, she didn't do any jumps either, and it was at least 2.5 min program. I was also wondering if she was injured. Usually the guest skaters crank out a couple of doubles, even on the somehwhat smaller rinks (this wasn't one of those really tiny rinks). Did anyone else see it?

Actually, the rink is really small for jumps.

Since you asked, I watched Lalique exhibition and the Today show, for elements...

Lalique Exhibition

Flying camel
RBO Y-spiral
Ina bauer followed by 2-axel
3-toe
Spreadeagle
Layback
LFIO change of edge spiral
Russian split
Charlotte
Camel/layback/backsit/Y-spin
Headless scratch spin

Today Show

Flying camel
RBO Y-spiral
Ina bauer (by the time she's done she's at the boards)
Spreadeagle
Scratch spin
Forward spiral and another forward spiral in opposite direction
Russian split
Charlotte
Camel/sit/backsit/Y-spin

There's no room to do ina bauer into 2-axel, and triples are hard on the Rockefeller ice size too. In the time it took to do the change of edge spiral at Lalique, she covered the ice with 2 forward spirals in both directions. And the program only has 2 jumps at Lalique, so the observation about it having few jumps is spot on.

It was also windy when she was on the Today show....you could see her hair blowing around and the posters people were holding swaying...it wouldn't be a good idea to jump in the wind.
