I didn't have time to look this up initially, but at the American Airlines Center during US Nationals, I noticed a new kind of zamboni - it was spraying water instead of flooding it.

Here's what the FastIce system is about...

The Dallas Stars (NHL) playing at the American Airlines Center is the pilot project for FastIce based on the press releases I read. I guess 2003 US Nationals is the first time a figure skating competition was held using this new ice making technology.

what?meworry?

ya, i noticed that. in fact it was so interesting, i actually sat through the ice makes just to watch the zamboni "spray" the ice.

the hockey teams really chop up the ice and the traditional zamboni doesn't really "heal" the ice.

this new technology creats a "clean" surface in one sweep that would otherwise require two (or more) zamboni sweeps.

really impressive.

but my question is, just how many dallas star centers are there in dallas? it seems that there's a rink everywhere and they all belong to the dallas stars!

what the deal? are they creating their own farm teams for the pros?

Adrian - I was impressed with the FastIce system, too. I told the head "iceman" at my rink about it the day I got home from Dallas and he's already requested a demo of the system.

From a local person I spoke to - I believe there are at least 3 Dr. Pepper Starcenters in the Dallas metro area, and 6 total?...

Lots of rinks in the area.
