I was not there, but a friend told me that Kendra Goodwin and Ryan Omera were having a tryout at DSC. The "look" wasn't perfect, but he said that the height might be ok. Of course Kendra is in great shape but Ryan has put on a bit of weight and didn't look in top form. The only negative comment he made is that Kendra doesn't twizzle very well, she kept stumbling. Igor will kill her. Hope it works out for them. Does Kendra have other options?

i'm sorry to say this again, but i just can't see them as a team.
i wish kendra had more options. by the way, unless she's doing the twizzles alone, you can't judge them. bad partnering can throw off the twizzler. but i wasn't there, so i don't really know.

Kenra has great twizzles alone and when she was with Chris she had great twizzles. When you first try out with someone you're trying hard to match everything to the new partner ad that can relly throw off your timeing. If she's trying to match her twizzles to someone who's a bit out of shape, she's probably having to slow down her timing and that can be very difficult.
And I'm sure Kendra has more options.

I have to agree, Kendra has such a nice spark to her skating and I just don't see Ryan matching that quality. What ever happened to the Young's? I could see Kendra and Ikaika as a nice match.

I do not know the exact reason why the Youngs did not compete this year. However, Kakani and Ikaika are seriously training right now for next season. In my opinion, they have some of the best edges anywhere.

We have an unusual number of non-citizen partners in teams who can't go to the Olympics for the USA, no matter how good they are.

glad to hear this! are they still with the same coach? where are they training?
i've seen them develop over the years and was dissappointed when heard they quit to go to college. apparently the rumor wasn't true

No, actually, that rumor was true.... sort of. I can't say for sure if they have gone back to serious training or not, but I highly doubt it. For one thing, Bernard Ford doesn't coach them anymore, and for another, both kids are extremely bright and I'm sure Kakani, inparticular, is very focused on finishing college right now. Ikaika is coaching in the Seattle area, but I don't think this team is actually training for next season.

The Youngs are definitely training for next season. Bernard Ford recently moved to Toronto for some type of ice dance position with the CFSA. Sharon Baker-Jones is now, and has been, one of the coaches for the Youngs.
Is Bernard Ford at a Toronto club or is he in an executive position??? she secretly wants to add ice dance to her list of to-do's...but hasn't seen any coaches interested in helping her...since she is a strong singles skater....

Mr Ford has typically taken on strong freestylers to help them with edges, style, choreography, etc. But he rarely teaches adults, and is, in general, fairly picky about who he'll work with.

I can give you some help if you're looking for a good dance coach in Toronto - e-mail me separately.

So, does anyone know if any decisions have been made about Kendra and Ryan? I heard they looked good together. Are either, or both, having other tryouts? What news!!

I talked to Ryan and asked him how things went and said that they went great. Kendra will be in Michigan in a few weeks. So they will be skating together. I'm very happy for Ryan, he's a hard worker.

Great news! I think they'll do very well together. Will they compete as Juniors or Seniors?

They'd have to compete as seniors; Kendra can't compete in juniors (and she's too old for international junior competition). The rule allowing skaters to compete down a level with their partners only applies if they have tested up but not actually competed at the higher level.

That's great that Ryan thinks they're skating together but nothing has been decided officially yet. They MAY end up skating together, but I know that Kendra still has a few prospects she's checking out before packing her bags.

So - Igor is going to have 3 senior teams next season? Tanith/Ben, Emilie/Brandon, and Kendra/Ryan?
Interesting...
