Just wanted to let everyone know that Kurt Browning and his wife Sonia Rodriguez are expecting a baby in July! It was in the paper in Toronto this morning.

I almost fell out of my chair when I read the topic of this thread (mainly because this news came so soon after Scott Hamilton and his wife announced their new addition), but it's not just a rumor. Thanks GEM21, for posting the link to that Sun article. The National Ballet of Canada also published a news release annoucing the good news:

http://www.national.ballet.ca/news/releases/news_january30_rodriguez.shtml

It's great to see Sonia plans to continue dancing after the baby is born (I always assumed most ballerinas stopped dancing altogether after starting a family--if they ever had children at all--but I'm glad that's apparently not the case here!)

Congratulations to Kurt and Sonia--I'm sure they'll make wonderful parents! :)

How cool would that be to have Kurt for a father? Lots of laughs and good times in the Browning household. :) Congrats to them!

Wow, they must be so excited. Congratulations to them both, and I can hardly wait to see if it is a boy or girl.

I totally agree. That kid is going to be so lucky to have Kurt as a Dad. I'm very happy for them.

So his kid and Scott's kid will be about the same age! Great play-mates! (when they're together)

...this likely means though, that Kurt will not likely continue to tour :(

My thoughts exactly (and perhaps this explains some of the recent casting at the NBoC).

Congrats to them, they seem like they'll both make great parents.

I already posted this link on the "Scott to become a father" thread and hope no one minds me posting it here as well. Somebody's organizing a scrapbook for both Kurt and Scott's new arrivals and put together a website for them:

http://www.geocities.com/skatingbabies/

I came across links to this site on other mailing lists/boards I visit and just thought I'd share it here in case anyone on this board wants to congratulate both sets of parents-to-be!

As for Kurt's touring future, I agree this may probably be his last full year with the US Stars On Ice tour (he said he wasn't sure whether or not this would be his last year in a couple of interviews even before he would have known about this new addition to his family), but I think there's still a good chance he'll still be doing the (much smaller) Canadian SOI tour, make a few "special guest star" appearances on the US tour (similar to what Scott and Katia are doing this year) or possibly take part in a future "Scott Hamilton and Friends" tour (which, again, would only tour about a dozen or so cities). Kurt also mentioned the possibility of a third Gotta Skate special during an interview on the French-language version of CBC, so hopefully we won't be seeing the last of him on the ice just yet! Of course, I also read a description of Kurt as a possible stay-at-home dad on FSU, which made me smile. :)

And now that I've recovered from the shock, I just want to add what a happy coincidence that both "Skategods for life" are expecting their first children so closely together! :)

It never fails.....I go away for the better part of a week of medical appts and look what happens!!!!!

I've got to tell all of you, w/the Columbia tragedy happening, it's been a sad few days for me, a person who also follows the space program and believes in NASA and their goals. Coming online tonight and reading this news.......Talk about an uplift. A badly needed uplift.

I'm so thrilled for Kurt and Sonia. They're going to make incredable parents. All the best for the two/three of them. :)
