Hey Everyone !
Just wondering if anyone saw Elvis's Tour. They aired it tonight on CBC! I was disapointed it was only an hour long. What a shame, it couldnt' have been longer ! I never attended the show but I'm gathering they axed alot of good numbers ! Your thoughts ?

Yep they did axe a lot of numbers. I wasn't at the Ottawa show I was at the Regina show so there were different skaters but all of the skaters did 2 numbers so they axed the second numbers for everyone except Elvis (obviously, lol) and Jamie and David. Plus they didn't show Irina Gregorian or Dan Hollander and they didn't show the Mambo #5 group number (which was fantastic so I'm peeved about that) and they didn't show Elvis' trademark Presley number that he ends each show with. If they would have only made it 2 hours long they could have fit in each skater at least once and included the group number. It was really good anyway though and I loved Elvis' story about Anton and his feet, very funny.

it was definitely way too short.
lots of fun stuff was left out... i didn't see the ottawa show but i was at toronto and london..
they left out tara lepinske, dan hollander, the hula hoop lady, surya bonaly and all the second numbers that everyone did....
i too loved the group no. which they left out....
i also want to know how elvis got up the ramps... on skates... wow...

I saw the show and I have to agree it was too short. It would have been nice if they should more numbers. Well it was nice to see Jamie and David, Elena and Anton, and Elvis of course. Although it was short it was still a quite a good show. Hopefuly next year they will show more of it.

What does everyone think about Rudy Galindo's number??? I thought it was a little over the top...he's a great skater, but that was too much:??

I was at the Ottawa show and thought Rudy's number was tasteless. His second skate was much better. I am surprised that CBC elected to show this one.

I was a bit surprised by the number. I heard alot of talk about this number actually, and well actually SEEING the program for the first time I was kinda shocked. I guess I was a bit more shocked when he yanked off his pants more so than anything. I know that his costume reflected alot on the song chosen, however it was definitly over the top in my eyes.

I'm disapointed I never attended Elvis's show this year. I've been to every other show he's done since 1994 up until 1998, but I couldn't make his show this year. And after watching it , I kinda thought that the set up he had this year was rather cool. Having the DJ in up on top introducing the skaters etc..... Very cool, and it seemed to me there was alot of great lights and stuff.
It was also great to see Elizabeth Manley's niece skate in the show. What a great young talented skater.

While I was also surprised that CBC elected to show Rudy's transvestite number, I give them a big thumbs up for having the nerve! Sure, some may find it offensive, but many others find it hilariously innovative, myself included. It's pure Rudy....and I love Rudy ;)
I attended the show in person, and it would have been nice if CBC could have shown us at least 2 hours.....my show included Brian Orser, Brasseur & Eisler, Surya Bonaly, Dan Hollander, and Jeffrey Buttle....maybe next year?
Count me in as one who loved the Mambo group number....I was hoping I'd get another chance to see it!

The show was much too short...I'm very disappointed with CBC! They can show hours and hours of other sports such as speedskating, skiing, etc. on Saturdays, but figureskating gets the short shrift as usual!!
I enjoyed very much what they did show, but I definitely did not need to see Rudy Galindo (or any other male skater, for that matter) clutching his "jewels"...ugh ugh LOL. I tuned out until the next number. I enjoy Rudy's "pure" skating numbers much much more...I'm very disappointed in him. JMO though...to each his own (or her own).
I would have loved to have seen Elvis' "Presley" number again. I could have done without one of his other numbers in order to see it. I also would preferred to have seen some of the other "second" numbers or some of the other artists...I could have done without Liz' number (although I'm a fan of her amateur skating and her earlier professional work)...she looked like she was really labouring throughout her number. I enjoyed her niece's number very much!

I loved Rudy's Frank-n-furter, but then I used to go see The Rocky Horror Picture Show about once a month when I was in university. How many of you who hated his act have seen the movie?

Here ya go purplecat:
Elvis did several numbers. Many skated to techno music.
Elizabeth Manley (One Number)
Punswollen & Swallow (please excuse typo) (One Number)
B&S (One Number - Meditrainian)
Elizabeth Manley's Neice performed
S&P skated two programs
Rudy
oh and they had those Russian Acrobatic performers. Very impressive.
Basically that is all who was shown in the broadcast. No really "group" numbers were shown.

Further to that: all of Elvis's numbers were of the techno/hip hop ilk, and they all looked exactly the same, IMO. The two S&P numbers were "Rockin' the Boogie" and "Imagine."
I absolutely loved Rudy's program (and isn't it eerie how much he resembles Tim Curry?!) ... but I agree that it wasn't to everyone's taste, and they might have done well to consider their audience. Not because of the nature of the sexuality (i.e., transexual), but just because it was so overtly sexual period -- crotch and butt, grabbing, sliding the belt between his legs, etc.
But really, Rudy's program was the highlight of the hour for me, along with young Emily Manley (a talent to watch, for sure!). Everyone else was doing programs we'd seen a million times before, or else supposedly "new" stuff that looked exactly the same as their "old" stuff (notably, Elvis). And as much as I love Liz, and admire her for her guts in skating through her injury, the program that they showed was nowhere near her usual artistic or energetic level.
Imagine wasn't bad ... it looked more polished than at Homecoming, but at the same time it didn't have the same emotional impact it did at Homecoming.
Elvis's story about Anton's feet, and skateboarding bit with Jamie and David were cute.

CBC is usually quite good when it comes to figure skating coverage--they broadcast CSOI in a two-hour timeslot for the first time since I don't know when last month and when they broacast pro/pro-am events, you can usually count on them to show most of the programs chacked by the U.S. networks. So I don't know why this broadcast couldn't have been an hour (or at least a half-hour!) longer, considering the Shania Twain special CBC aired immediately afterwards was a repeat which had only been originally broadcast a couple of months ago!
I knew Tara was chacked altogether from the broadcast (I caught a brief glimpse of her during one of the group numbers), but I didn't know how many other skaters were...thanks to everyone who pointed that out!
Considering how many times we've seen Elvis skating to Elvis between 1994 and 1998, I'm not complaining too much about not getting to see it again, but I wished more "brand-new" numbers were included in the broadcast instead of ones most of us have probably already seen half a dozen times before (S&P's Rockin' The Boogie, B&S' Meditation, the number performed by those Russian acrobats in suits and ties).
S&P's Imagine was good, but I much preferred seeing them skate to the original John Lennon version during Kristi's Salute To Gold show (unless CBC couldn't get the rights to the original Lennon vocals?)
I was really impressed with Emily Manley (she probably has one of the best spirals I've ever seen from a Canadian female skater!), and it was wonderful to see her Aunt Liz back on the ice, too! :) I actually enjoyed Rudy's number, probably because it was new, but I'd probably get kind of tired of it after seeing it a few more times. BTW, what was Rudy's second number on this tour?
Now I wish even more that I'd been able to get tickets when this show came to my province a couple of months ago...the crowd reaction to Rudy's number probably would have been worth the price of admission alone!

I missed it on TV and I'm still upset. However, I wondered if they showed the number that Elvis did (I can't remember the music at all) where he started off handing out ice-cream dressed in white and then it ripped apart into his black ensemble?? Did they show that one?
I for one thought Rudy's number was hilarious and I'm glad they showed it on TV. The number was purely in fun...well skated...brought the house down and is by no means to be taken so seriously. It's his style to *semi-shock* and leave his audience howling. He definitely accomplished that. And if you don't believe me ask the two 70+ year old ladies who were sitting near me who were in hysterics over how *shocking* he was! They loved it. I have to agree...if you're not familiar with The Rocky Horror Picture Show...you probably didn't get it at all.
It's disappointing when they don't show the whole show on TV that's for sure, if for only that it makes some people wonder..*was that all there was?* When for those of us in Calgary who saw it knew that it was one of the longest ice shows I've been too, so I definitely got my money's worth. I'll be back next year!

Yes, they showed it. I thought the ice-cream gimmick was a transparent attempt to try to hid the fact that the "program" had no choreography ... and I hate to see people in the audience going "me, me" for the free ice cream. Tacky tacky tacky.
The name of the song was, I believe, "I'm Your Ice Cream Man" or something like that.

I was at the Ottawa show in which it was taped and I would just like to say that that the show that I saw in ottawa (the WHOLE SHOW) was much better then it appeared to be on tv. I reallu enjoyed it there. For anyone of you guys that saw the show in ne area, didn't u notice that the stuff the ommited kinda left the show empty on tv. It was so bad because I really liked this show

well i also saw the show liveand believe me live was much much better.
dan;s nos were absolutely delightful... elvis had the crowd in the palm ofhis hand and skated at much faster a speed than anyone else in the show....anton and elena are classically beautiful, i had never seen irina (the hula hoop lady).and she was very very entertaining...
why cbc only did one hour of the show i don't know because it jelled a lot better live.

Ah shucks... I thought it was totally charming :D
Elvis has a wonderful way with the audience-- natural, and not forced at all-- there's nothing transparent about it. He loves to interact with the crowd, and from the live shows that I've been to, they seem to love it too.
Once he got onto the ice, it was a typical Elvis show program, but you won't get any complaints from me... I love his genuine enthusiasm and energy...and I love rock music ( :) Van Halen)
Under the lights of an ice show, it's vintage Elvis and it works for me :D

Rudy's second number on the Tour was "Colors Of the Wind," the Danny Wright piano version.

Do tell the story about Anton's feet?
Elvis told a story about being on the road, this is how it goes (if I remember it correctly): they were on this bus that has beds and Liz Manley comes to the back of the bus and says for safety reasons they need to sleep with their heads facing the back of the bus in case they stop suddenly they won't hurt their head and Anton sat up and said "My Head? My feet are way more important".
What does everyone think about Rudy Galindo's number???
LOVED IT!!!! It was hilarious !
Further to that: all of Elvis's numbers were of the techno/hip hop ilk, and they all looked exactly the same, IMO.
Personally I love that he skates to techno/ hip hop, rock :D. I hate the classical numbers *yawn* wake me when they're over. Every minute that Elvis was on the ice he had my attention because he was the only skater (although Dan was pretty good at this too) to constantly look into the audience and interact with the audience the entire time he was on the ice. I was so busy screaming and enjoying his audience interaction that I didn't even notice if the programs looked the same or not and frankly I didn't care because I was having too much fun. He was pure energy beginning to end :D.

To each their own I guess because I loved it. He came down through the audience in the section next to mine and that whole corner of the arena went crazy. I didn't think it was trying to hide anything I thought the choreography was alright and whether there was or wasn't good choreography the program was fun and that was all that mattered to me. In the end if I had a good time, laughed, and smiled then I got my money's worth.
I for one cannot wait to see this tour next year :D! I'm thinking that those ramps are probably coming back (I hope), those were so cool and so were the platforms (the section I was in was lucky enough to have Dan on the one in front of us at the beginning of the show and Elvis on it during Mambo #5, I don't think I breathed the entire time he was dancing up there). Hopefully CBC realizes the mistake they made this year and if they get the rights to it next year they'll think twice and show 2 hours.
