Just up on the USFSA site...

I was interested that she ended the partnership and Matthew Gates and that they will be training with Igor in Detroit.

Can someone please explain to me why no one is surprised by this?
I certainly am surprised and I don't like how so many people are treating it like its just old news. Not everyone already knew this was going to happen.

as soon as it was known that jamie silverstein had quit and brandon was solo again, rumors began the bounce around that he had been contacted by a former partner, and even that there was a secret tryout. she was the only former partner having any degree of success.
there is no doubt in my mind that it was a done deal going into nationals.
it's a shame she left the team before, but i remember them as a very sharp team and i think they'll be contenders for the silver next year.

Yes, N/F was a great team together...I got to see one of their first competitions (Jr. World selections in '98) and was rather impressed. It was obvious that Emilie was new to dance, but Brandon was a wonderful partner.
One irony....the last time Nussear & Forsyth were together, they had a friendly rivalry with Belbin & Agosto. B/A won the junior National title over N/F, then N/F got silver (to B/A's bronze) at Junior Worlds. Now all four are at the DSC....very interesting. Good thing they all got along back then!
I definitely think N/F will be able to do well, especially since they'll be pushed by B/A every day. Hey, is Emilie already in Detroit?

So what is the deal with Jamie Silverstein now? Has she actually quit skating for good?
I hope not - I fell in love with her the first time I saw her partnered with Justin Pekarek.

I think Jamie has quit for good and it's probably best for her personally. I'm very excited about N/F getting back together.

jamie suffered, it appeared by her behaviours, a nervous breakdown during the period of time that she and justin were training intensively. symptoms of an eating disorder appeared to be a result (not cause) and she was hospitalized.
she never really recovered, which is very sad. i thought she and brandon would have been a truely great team.
i understand that she has now permanently retired.

Does anybody know anything about Jessica Joseph, Bradon's partner prior to Jamie? Jessica skated with Charlie Butler in Nagano. I thought she had potential, but I never really felt that her and Brandon had jelled. Has she quit?

From what I know about Charlie, I think he quit altogether. Jessica and Charlie had to withdraw after the original dance in Nagano, because Charlie suffered a severe problem of some sort.
This is just what I remember, and if I am not correct, you can gladly correct me.

Joseph & Butler did skate all phases of the competition in Nagano and finished 21st IIRC.
At 1998 Worlds, there were more teams at their level competing, Butler had an ankle injury of some sort so they didn't skate quite as well as at teh Olympics, and they were unlucky enough in their OD draw to skate very first, so they ended up in 25th place and just missed qualifying for the free dance. I.e., they didn't withdraw, they missed the cut, but just barely.

As far as Butler goes, I'm not sure his injury had anything (or much) to do with his decision to retire. From what I remember the reason he gave publicly at the time was that he'd accomplished enough to satisfy him in skating and he wanted to concentrate on school. I believe he was trying to juggle college and skating at that point.

Charlie was coaching in Ann Arbor, Michigan and attending the University of Michigan. He may have graduated by now.

I'm happy to hear that Brandon and Emily have gotten back together. I guess this is a little like getting a divorce and then remarrying. Anyway, it's good to see that both of them are continuing with the sport. It's really amazing to me how may good ice dancers there are now in the U.S.. I think we really have a bright future in this event:lol:
