I knew Scott and his wife wanted to start a family soon, but I'm pleasantly surprised it's happened this soon:

The baby is due in September and the couple announced the good news at a wedding reception attended by more than 200 guests (including many skaters). Congratulations to the parents-to-be! :)
I'm happy for the parent's to be but I'm one of those people that believes you shouldn't be announcing a pregnancy this early. Hope all goes well for them.

That's great news! :D Congratulations!
I know if it were me, I'd probably shout it from the mountaintops as soon as I found out so friends and family could share my excitement and also pray for the health of the baby.
I bet Scott will be a great dad!

And to think that he came back from testicular cancer too.
Congratulations to Scott!

I told people I was pregnant when I found out at 6 weeks. I had the worst morning sickness and my boss was very worried! But friends have waited for at least 3 months due to health issues, so I can see both sides here. It's also possible that they made the announcement to 'scoop' the press and avoid any tabloid type articles.
Congratulations to the Hamiltons! I wish them all the best! :)

The reason to wait until after 3 months is not really health related. Almost twenty percent of all pregnancies miscarry, and most of those occur in the first three months. I missed on my first pregnancy at 10 weeks, and a friend who told everyone she was pregnant just recently missed, also at about 10 weeks. It was awkward and painful for her to have to let everyone know what had happened.
What you do with your first pregnancy is not necessarily what you'd do with a subsequent one. But you don't know that at the time! So, let them be excited and enjoy this moment. If things don't turn out well, they'll handle it then.

dbny - actually the friends I referred to had major health issues. One was my Wednesday night Speech partner (and hairdresser). We've known each other over 20 years and she didn't tell me she was expecting until the 5th month (baggy clothes and a thin woman!) It was very touch and go the whole pregnancy for her. Another one had a miscarriage and then delivered a 3 pounder at 7 months (baby is doing great now).
I'm sorry for both your loss and your friends loss. :(

I came across this link on a few other boards/mailing lists I check out and I hope nobody minds if I share it here. Somebody's organizing a scrapbook for both Kurt and Scott's new arrivals and put together a website for them:

Just in case anyone wants to congratulate both sets of parents-to-be themselves!
