View Full Version : Jenny Kirk's flying camel
I thought it would improve over time, but it still "doesn't fly," as Dick Button would say. Is she flawed in her technique? What is it exactly that she neglects to do? Do you think it would be something worth working on, for her? It is bothering me a little bit. Would it be that difficult to work on her approach, or is it a like flutzing - nearly impossible to rework?
Sorry to be so question-y in that last paragraph. Just a curious mood tonight, I guess :)

Actually I thought it looked much better in the Nationals SP -- not great, but probably enough to avoid a deduction for a change.

One thing Kirk is working on with Callaghan is her spins. I think they just havent had time to drastically improve all the spins, but I can almost promise this will be greatly improved next season as it is now her most obvious weakness, IMO. Her other spins have improved in quality just in the time she's been with Callaghan.
Next season look for her consistency to improve as she gets used to her new jumping technique and body. She will be a force.
Thanks, you all, and I agree that it has improved, actually, now that I have rewatched a couple videos and compared. I am really excited about the fact that she is working with Callahan, the difference is already noticeable and it hasn't been all that long!

I have a photo of Jenny's camel spin on my site. Not the "flying" part, though. :)

Thanks, Dave. I feel like I should call you, "Mr. Amorde" for some reason.
I actually went four days without re-browsing your site, so I hadn't seen Jenny's newest photographs yet. They're absolutely lovely! The "post-fly" position is certainly nothing to shake a finger at.

Do I look old, or just intimidating? ;)

The last time I saw Kirk's flying camel on TV, it appeared that she did a 3-turn prior to take off for the flying part. From what I understand (as a recreational freestyle skater who can do a decent flying camel), the 3-turn should not occur. The jump should spring from an outside edge. There is probably plenty of disagreement on this technique, but I have wondered if it might be the problem w/ Kirk's flying camel.
