Ok. Here Goes....Let's see what everyone thinks.

This poll is meant to include only skaters who didn't win a world title
while they were eligible!

I loved her skating dearly and miss her grace and passion for the sport every single year when the new season starts. :(

the question asks of skaters who have never won a world title. oksana won the world title in 93.

personally, i say surya bonaly!! three consecutive silver World medals. this must have been extremely frustrating for her.

I second that! I didn't see the qualifying requirement before I voted. In that case, I would have to go with Surya Bonaly.

Funny that Karen Kwan made it on to your list. I don't even think she broke the top 5 at nationals, so I wouldn't say she could win a world title. I cant't believe she couldn't medal at nationals and 95-96 was the inconsistent Nicol Bobeck era. she was never as talented as her younger sister.

I would add Bonaly that list as well. It must of been hard for the girl to win silver 3x times.. She was really close to gold in 94, I would've given her the nod at worlds in 94

Karen Kwan was 5th at US Senior Nationals in 1996. I remember Michelle being so excited for her!

I voted for Josée, because I think she is an amazing skater, and the only reason she never stood on top of the world podium was because she just couldnt get it done in comp. Its really sad, because she had so much talent, and still does. I think if she could get it done in competition, she would be able to come back, and do great, despite her age! (She's still working on triple axel, and landing gorgeous 3lutzs, last I heard!)

Edited, because I've missed a few skaters on that list and complained, without reading the explaining post to that list first ...

Nicole Bobek, because I wasn't paying attention to skating at that time and sorry I missed her!

I added another vote for Josée (surprise, surprise!) I still say had she been able to skate her 1993 or 1994 Canadians long program equally well at those two world championships, she would have definitely been on the podium (if not a contender for gold!)

Janet Lynn! I've never seen a complete program of hers, but I would love to see one... Just the way everyone talks about her... It just seems such a shame that she never actually won a world title.

Edited to add that I totally agree with Josee also! :)

Many people feel that she is the greatest free skater of all times. Her performances on a store bought tape I have are to be treasured.

I originally voted for "other" because I didn't read the requirements about having never won Worlds before. I was going to say Oksana Baiul. What I wouldn't give to see her in shape and somehow able to reinstate, kick butt and take names. ;)

But since it's for someone who never won then I'd say... Tonya Harding. I think she had SO much athletic potential but she got in her own way.

I loved seeing her skate at the one pro event years after the "whack" and wish that she would have gotten her life on track at some point.

LOOKS LIKE EVERYONE LOVES JOSEE AS MUCH AS I DO. INTERESTING PRELIMINARY POLL RESULTS!

I AM GOING TO USE THE RESULTS IN MY STATISICS CLASS.

Well I voted for Czako because her Addams Family program is still one of my favourites and I definately think she was incredibly talented and potentially had the ability to at least medal at worlds.

However I agree with the suggestion of Janet Lynn. If there ever was a wonderful skater who deserved to win a world title it was her. I have Janet on tape from some professional comps in the 80s and she was amazing.

Josée, hands down, no question for me... She had all the characteristics that make a great skater for me and she was the example I followed as I skated. She more than had the "goods" I only wish her nerves hadn't been a problem.

However I do agree with Janet Lynn... Her and Josée would be my top two.

I would like to see Kristi Yamaguchi come back. She was still keeping up her triples for a long time as a professional. Even though her jumps weren't the biggest and even though she was seen as petite she was still great. I would like to see her come back and compete and show the other ladies how they are done.

I voted OTHER because you didn't state your requirements and I thought of Kristi Y. as my pick.
So now I will vote for Surha.

Nahschoir--just a note of caution. You may want to note in your statistics class that your sample was not randomly selected, and suffers from great selection bias (only those people who are highly motivated will bother to vote) Having said that, I applaud the use of skating info in a stat class---heaven knows baseball examples are used far too often!
Good luck! Hope you get a sample size large enough to use. Do you know yet what tests you will perform?

BTW, my vote would be for Janet Lynn(It would have been Josee, until I read someone else's post and thought 'Oh yeah, Janet!')

Definitely Josée for me!!! The total package...except for her nerves. Absolutely had (and still has, I believe) the technical and presentation skills to win gold.

I also loved Janet Lynn's skating...she would be my second choice.

I would agree with Tonia K. She had so much potential and was such a great lady.

Nahschoir: I think you should also include the ratio of Canadian to US voters in this poll. It would be interesting to see what percentage of US voters here actually chose Josee, or if all of her votes came from Canadians. Myself, I voted for Nicole Bobek because when she's on, there's nobody like her. She has tons of raw talent!

I'd like to see Yuka Sato come back and win! She's incredible, and continues to be incredible, IMO. Second, I would have to pick Josee, who is a delightful skater with a gorgeous lutz and charisma almost beyond compare.

I’m from the US and voted for Josee without hesitation, Nicole would be my second pick if more than one was allowed.
Josee’s jumps put her on the top, everything after jumps both are equal.

I love both, I seem to collect more favorites each season, but these two never leave my “favorite list”. :)

Also, if someone ask me I would have had Surya on the list instead of Karen Kwan, but no one did. ;)

I voted other also (for Oksana Baiul), not realizing the poll was for skater's who hadn't won a world title before. I guess if we're just talking fantasy returns then I'd love to see Katia Gordeeva suddenly pick up amazing jumping ability, reinstate and win a world medal in singles. :)

If you want an answer based vaguely in reality then I'll go with Josee C.

It is so cool to see how many people still support Josee. Even though she is no longer eligible, and although she doesn't compete as much now; she still seems to have an overwhelmingly good relationship with her fans!

We Just Love Ya Josee!

Since this is a fantasy poll, I voted for "Other" for Tonya Harding (just to shake things up... ;) )

That is a tough choice. For me, it's between Josee and Tania Kwiatkowski.

I voted for my favorite figure skater of all time, who got me initially interested in the sport, JOSEE CHOUINARD. :) Just think of what she could have accomplished had she landed her triples when it counted.. she had everything else it took to be a champion.

I was shocked to open this thread and see so many votes for her. Go Josee!!

I would love to see the look on all the little sleep inducing, artistic ladies when the great Midori gets on the ice. What a hoot!

It depends on what kind of shape Midori was in. If Midori came back looking ill-prepared and seemed like she didn't want to be there then the artistic ladies wouldn't have anything to worry about.

I voted for Nicole Bobek. I really feel that of the US ladies in the 90's, Nicole had the greatest talent and potential. Too bad she could never stay with one coach long enough to realize that potential.

Josee without a doubt! shes an amazing skater, just let her nerves get hte better of her!

Josee all the way she has improved so much since she has quite amateur. Shes amazing I mean she still brings that spark to the ice after all these years and now she is actaully laying down the jumps! Maybe one of her students will accomplish her dream. I think that would mean alot to her. Its prolly unlikely but it makes me smile when i think about it!

I would love to see Katia Gordeeva be able to skate pairs and win a world title again--I think she could do it. But without Sergei, it would be really hard to see. I guess that's just a fantasy since it can never be.

JOSEE!! :D

If it wasn't for her darn nerves.... she would have been a World Champ!

I'm also happy to see that Josee got so many votes!!

Lynn Nightingale. Came 4th in freeskating at Innsbruck in '76.

And of course, Janet Lynn, although I am the world's biggest Magnussen fan...but, on second thought, the lack of a world title adds to the mystique and if she had won one, we may not have had all those years of Landover.

Tiffany Chin...just don't know what happened to her...growth, I guess, plus the foot problem compounded with her mom

I would have to say Tonya K. and Nicole B. It always bothered me that B could quite get the spot she needed and Tonya was such a wonderful skater, she just didn't have the advantage skating with all those younger ones and I think she really gave her all to her sport. I wished she TK had another chance.

LOL,I don't know if this count's. Bt for those familar with her I would surely like to see Donna Mitchell former Ice-Dancer and Reigning Double Gold Medalest return to the ice and win a World Title.

There must be a lot of Canadian's that answered this poll. I liked Josee's skating, but she was always inconsistent. She never won a gold at World's and I don't think she even medaled. She wouldn't win a World title, but she always had great choreography and she was one of my favorites. I would pick Tara. Tara is one of my all time favorites. I still can't get over a 14 year old girl, clearly not the favorite at the 1997 Worlds, going out and skating so well. She was just unbelievable. There are some 19 year old skaters that aren't as consistent, or polished as Tara was at 14. If Tara was completely free of injuries she would win another World title. Whenever she skated, you could always relax because you just knew that she was going to land her jumps. Also, I just loved the way she beat Michelle!!!!!

My vote would be for Lucinda Ruh. Her amazing spins never got the credit they deserved in my opinion. I would love to see her come back with a mastery of her triple jumps and those great spins.

For some reason I can't vote. The results were already showing when I clicked on this thread, as if I'd already voted. But I don't think I did, lol. Maybe I'm just forgetting though. I have a terrible memory. Anyway, of the people on the list I'd go with Josee. However, for skaters not on the list I'd probably go with Lucinda Ruh.

If you look at the dates, FSWer resurrected this thread more than a year after the last post. Maybe the poll closed on its own after a year's time? Just a thought.

I pick Nicole Bobek. I love her spunky, fun style of skating.

I'm stuck on 2: Josee or Susan Humphreys.

I love Josee and all, but I really miss Susan-her spiral was gorgeous!! If it wans't for all her injuries, she would have been World champion.

BTW, Yuka won the World title in '94 in Japan!
