Mike will not compete at the Four Continents so that he can take time to work on his programs for Worlds. Instead, Timothy Goebel, Scott Smith and Ryan Jahnke will go to 4CCs.
As Mike's coach, Don Laws says in the attached article, Mike needs to stay home and work on his triple axels. I have to agree

Hmmm.. it didn't work.. let me try:
Globe and Mail Article (http://www.globeandmail.com/servlet/ArticleNews/PEstory/TGAM/20030120/SFISI/Other/sportsOther/sportsOther_temp/7/7/19/)
This cracked me up:
DALLAS -- Veteran coach Don Laws called the men's event at the U.S. figure skating championships on Saturday the worst he has seen in 50 years.
"I've had nightmares before, but never this one," he said, even though his student, Michael Weiss, won his third U.S. title. He did it with a fumbling effort, but he was the best of a bumbling lot.
And here is the reference:
As for Weiss, Laws promises that the skater will go home and practise triple Axels until he's "blue in the face." He will have plenty of time to prepare for the world championship in his hometown because he's skipping the Four Continents championship from Feb. 10 to 14 in Beijing. Goebel, Jahnke and Smith will go.

In another thread I stated that Michael Weiss wouldn't have been on the podium at Canadian Nationals and now Richard Callaghan agrees with me!! WOW!!!

Along the line of more training, a comment was made on another board that the caption whenever they showed Brian Boitano on TV was: "I could win this competition!" LOL....I would have to agree.

a little work on landing his quads on one foot wouldn't hurt either.

Sounds to me like he is trying to humble Mike a bit. He is so arrogant sometimes that I with any other coach I bet he'd be bragging about his abysmal victory this weekend.

I questioned Mike leaving Audrey, but if Don Laws manages to bring Weiss' ego down a peg or two while fixing the two foot quads, he will have done Mike and skating fans a big favor.
Mike's presentation is heads and shoulders above the rest of the field, but there's no question in my mind if Eldredge or even Biotano were competing, Weiss wouldn't have been the one on the top step.

Spider68,
I was thinking the exact same thing.
Brian could've definitely won this competition with one hand tied behind his back!:D
