The page links to the article and to the list of the ESPYs she's up for, including Best Female Athlete. Coolness for Sarah...and for figure skating, which doesn't get much time on ESPN. ;)

What relevance do the ESPYs have to the real world? Hmmm...dunno. I guess they're sorta like the sport Oscars, or something. :)

Thanks for the link HazyRigby! If the Oly Long wins as 'Best Game' who gets the award, since there were many participants that made this so exciting?

It would be nice to see Sarah get at least one award, but I'm not holding my breath. ESPN isn't that heavy on figure skating as a sport. Maybe an ESPN2 Espy? Seems that's where they always show their figure skating footage, at 2:00 AM...

Thanks for the link. What an annoying site, especially first thing in the morning.

I would think Sarah has a real shot at best Olympian and Best Moment. It'd be so cool if she wins any of the five (and I think it's a hoot she has the most nominations).

Sarah deserves these nominations and she may well win one or two. BTW didn't ESPN have its best ratings ever with its coverages of figure skating this year? I have heard that the network was delighted with the results. So maybe they will have more coverage in the future.

I’m glad that such a mainstream sports network recognized Sarah and Sarah’s phenomenal performance. WTG ESPN!
Sarah is so deserving of these five nominations. 8) :D

I dunno that I can see her winning Best Olympian, considering Apolo Ohno's popularity, but it's possible. Best Moment, definitely a chance, but there are some other great ones up from sports that ESPN tends to consider a little more, ehm, legitimate. Actually, when it comes to the underdog victories I think Sarah's got tough competition from the New England Patriots in most of her categories--I'd give 'em Best Moment and Best Game for sure myself, and Brady probably has the best shot at Best Breakthrough Athlete as well.

As for Best Female Athlete, I think she's barely got a prayer. Personally, I like Sarah and she had a great year, but I'd have nominated Sue Bird in this category before I'd have nominated Sarah.

How fantastic!

I think Sarah stands a chance of winning "Best Female Athlete."

I was amused that my son, who wouldn't be caught dead watching skating in a non-Olympic year, caught her performance on TV and actually asked if he could borrow my tape to watch it again.

I think the fact that a 16 year old pulled off the skate of her life at the Olympics caught the attention of a lot of sports fans who are not normally skating fans.

But regardless, congratulations to Sarah on all the nominations.

I watched the ESPN Award shows in the past and it recognizes the excellence in a Athlete such as Sarah!

It's nice to see Sarah nominated, but I don't expect her to win anything, not that that really matters. I am glad to see skating get recognition, anyway.

Does anyone know how the winners are chosen? Who votes?

I don't think any figure skater has won an ESPY before. I checked the winners' lists, and unless the ESPYs were awarded before 1993 and they just haven't listed them on the site, then the answer is no.

I just think it's really funny. I like ESPN and all (being a big baseball fan), but sheesh! With the amount of coverage they do, you'd think mentioning figure skating on "Sportcenter" would get their good-ol' boy membership cards revoked, or something. :D

When is this going to be on? And have any other figure skaters been nominated for an award? :D

I think considering the amount of media hype that surrounded her Olympic win, she should win at least one of the categories......maybe best Olympic moment.

It's a great honor for Sarah to at least be nominated.

Can Michelle get some next year???? :(
