From this article. (http://www.tsn.ca/figure_skating/news_story.asp?ID=22510&hubName=figure_skating)
Lauzon hopes they [B&K] don't change their minds about quitting the top competitive level after Washington.
"If they decide to stay, and they don't stay until the next Olympics, they are killing us and all the other guys under them," he said. "You need four years to prepare (for Olympics)."
Now even accounting for a language barriers, this seems an odd statement to make to the press. No matter how much they may feel it, it sure sounds petty to resent the team that did so much to make their own rise to the top possible.
How about this one from Jennifer Robinson to Joanne Rochette
in the globe and mail.
Joanne told a french reporter that she was closer in age to skaters at the world junior championships than she is to senior skaters. Btw, this is in french.
Jennifer Robinson overheard and said to Joanne:
"You just so insulted me and you don't even know it"

I hope Jen meant that as a joke. The 2 JRs will be great representatives for Canada at the worlds!

I just find D&L's comments odd. They say "they and other dance teams need 4 years to prepare for the Olympics". Don't they have 4 years to prepare whether B&K are there or not? Unless they feel they need 4 years to "build their reputation" and holding the Canadian National title would help towards that end.
I guess it seems odd to me that people expect skaters with long, illustrious careers to "go off into the sunset" to make it "easier" on other skaters coming up. D&L and other dance teams always have the opportunity of "building their reputation" by becoming better ice dancers and defeating B&K fair and square. This from a person that likes D&L and B&K equally well.
Now, Jen Robison's comment is hilarious. I'm sure she meant it in a joking manner but it is still funny nonetheless. :D

I don't think D&L meant offense--to prepare for Olympics without being in the shadow of B&K will be very different for them than it has been; it could change their strategy. I think they are very serious about their desire to move up in the rankings, and it might be easier to meet the challenge without B&K earlier in the Olympic cycle.
I imagine Jen was joking too.
It's too easy to imagine a slight among skaters who are competitors--people say things all the time that could be taken the wrong way. I'm sure their are plenty of dislikes and resentments among skaters as well, but I'm not going to look for them criticize them for having them. They are human, and in the public eye during very emotional times.

Jen was just joking, I read an article and it stated that she was just joking.
As for D&L, like them a lot and I wish they would choose their words carefully next time. B&K have said this was going to be their last season, D&L are making it look like B&K stated they were leaving many times over. Is that a way to pay tribute to the best ice-dancers Canada has ever produced. I think Marie-france said it best at the end of the article when she said "I wish them world gold".
And on the other hand, I could agree with D&L. If B&K were to stay in until 06, than D&L could say good bye to a Olympic medal(possibly gold) and retire because I don't think they could ever defeat B&K and wouldn't pass the top 5, since they are national silver medallist.
