Well, the USFSA has selected the Jr. teams for most of the international assignments, does anyone know when they will do the same for Srs? Any thoughts on who may get assignments (outside of the obvious)?

An interesting question here will be if any of the newly formed dance and pairs teams get assignments.

I think Sarah will get Skate Canada since she's the reginning Skate Canada Champion. Timmy and Michelle should get Skate America since both are the current Skate America Champions. Michelle might get Skate Canada.

If that happens, it won't be until after Lake Placid (dance) and the Indy Challenge (pairs) competitions in August.

For B assignments, it looks like we will have the following number of spots...

Ladies: 5-6
Men: 5-6
Pairs: 4-5
Dance: 3-4

For the ladies I expect to see McDonough, Corwin, and Gardiner getting most or all of those spots. Maybe Wheat, Weber, or Cristobal if they do awesome at summer comps...

The contendors for the men include Jahnke, Bradley, Smith, Dillon, Ben Miller, and Matt Lind, and possibly Rohene Ward.

Pairs should come down to Orscher/Lucash and/or Inoue/Baldwin (unless they get GP assignments, and Quigley/Cording and Spielberg/Joeright. If Mayne/Martin are still together and do well at Indy, they could potentially get a spot also. Don/Hunt and Hinzmann/Hartsell are dark horses.

Dance will probably go to Navarro/Shmalo and Goodwin/Obzansky, though Nussear/Gates and Silverstein/Forsyth could get spots if they do well at Lake Placid. I am excited to see how all these summer comps turn out....

Liberty Open: July 17-20 in Newark, DE
Skate Detroit: July 24-27 in Detroit, MI
Lake Placid: July 31-Aug. 3 in Lake Placid, NY
Indy Challenge: Aug 16-18 in IN?

Anyone know where/when the big Pacific Coast competition is? How many of these skaters (if any) will be at the Broadmoor Open in mid-June?

Haribobo, in pairs how many grand prix assignments are open and if we do not include Inoue/Baldwin or Orscher/Lucash who will fill up the number of spots available? Don't we usually try and send two teams to each event? If Inoue/Balwin and Orscher/Lucash do not get Grand Prox Assignments I would be surprised. As I recall Handy/Hunt skated in several Grand Prix competitions last year and they didn't have the advantage of being placed in a top 5 spot at nationals the year before.

I agree with you on the ice dancing selections. I will be very interested to see how Nussear/Gates and Silverstein/Forsyth make out. I think that these two teams are going to add some excitment to ice dance this year. However, I wonder if they too should hold back and make sectionals and nationals the place where they make their initial splash onto the scene. As with Pairs I really wish teams would take some time to learn about each other anddevelop their individual styles before being forced into an early outing.

Does anyone know when we will see the initial list from the USFSA? I am also curious as to how the USFSA is going to select the ladies, they have such a strorng field this year.

Not sure, but Sandra Loosemore's website has a list of upcoming competitions, and she's really very diligent about updating. Check it out: http://www.frogsonice.com/skateweb/

Also, the Escondido Figure Skating Club's website usually has some great info. as well (about Cal. competitions): http://www.escondidofsc.org/home.htm

Hope that helps.
