Hey Everyone !!
All I've got to say is I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS LIVE !!!!!!!! I just have to rant and rave about this years show. Personally I think it has alot of GREAT GREAT numbers from what we've seen of course.
One number I MUST RAVE about is that "Cowboy Number" OH MY STARS !!! This is definitly a HOT NUMBER !!! Personally I was drooling :D
I also enjoyed I&Z's "Bed Of Roses" program. But then again I absolutly LOVE this team !!!!! Especially John Zimmerman *teehee*
Was nice to see Katerina Witt back on tour again.
Was surprised that Kurt took yet another approach to something "similar" to his "Clown Number" he did back in 1999 - however he still had me chuckling in my seat.
And of course S&P - refreshing as always
And I extreamly enjoyed B&S "Elvis & Mairlynn" Number ! Elvis definitly does make a GREAT Elvis !!!
I was surprised to see Scott Hamilton perform as well.
Anyways I just am wondering what everyone else thought of the broadcast. Too bad it wasn't longer - apparently A&E are re-broadcasting the show. Anyone know when????
Again all I can think about is that cowboy number - just gives me hot flashes - LOL !!!
OK this may be a silly post, just I needed to rave about how much I enjoyed this years show, and I am just really anxious to see this years show LIVE !!

I admit that I too loved the SOI broadcast today and am very much looking foward to seeing the show live in March!! It will be my first time seeing it live (I have seen it on TV almost every year for quite a long time though) so I think I picked a great year to go! :D
And the cowboy number, or as I dubbed it, the Eye Candy Number, was my fave part too! ;) The guys looked like they were having a great time and that just made the number that much better to me!! LOL :D Gotta make sure to have enough film....LOL ;) Overall, I think the show looks wonderful. Come on March! :D
FIESTA!! Ohio State Buckeyes-2002 National Football Champions!! :D

"EYE CANDY NUMBER" I like the sounds of that !!!!! Its true they did look like they were having SO MUCH FUN out there !!! I especially liked the end with the cowboy hats *snickers*
I DEFINITLY have to remember to take LOTS of film with me *teehee*
Personally I think that number alone is going to be the HIGHTLIGHT for me at this years SOI show!!

Yes, I enjoyed most of the broadcast too. It did look like they are trying to get rid of the 'stale' image and be more energetic. At least me saw more of the group numbers than spotlights.
I had to laugh about the cowboy number - while it was innovative and fun, it was not really about quality skating, and it had the sex appeal that sells tickets to just the market it is after - the over 35 women....in the years when I used to go regularly, it always amazed me how few under 30 people were in the audience, especially those who skate (10-16 yr old.) But then That's Entertainment.
But for a group number, nothing beats the year they did the parody of Olympic judging - that had me rolling in the aisles along with my coach!

I get to see the show on Friday. Can't wait. I will sure miss Tara, though.

Saw it live already & didn't much care for it this year. I liked Kurt & Roca/Sur. Same for the television special.

Well, my first thought was: too short! But then that was my thought before it even began, so ...
That being said, I thought they did a reasonably good job of selecting which ones to show and which ones to chack. The exception was Scott's 2nd number (Figaro). Considering it was same ol same ol, and considering he's not a "permanent" cast member any more, I would have rather they chacked that in favour of one of the more "new" numbers (like S&P's Come Fly with Me, or Kurt's balad, or Kat's other number since we so rarely see her these days). But perhaps the fact since Scott is one of the producers had something to do with the decision! ;)
I'm really glad they included the piece with B&S, S&P, and Todd. Although I don't think there was ever a doubt that they would, considering the role NBC took in the media circus at SLC! And of the 4 different pairs routines they did show, they sure represented a great range of styles! I especially liked M&S's "I'm Your Man" -- glad to see them doing something a little different, and Todd especially is really hitting his stride as a perfomer.
The cowboy number was great, very high on the entertainment scale. And I though John looked as though he was born to be a cowboy!

I'm glad they showed Ina and Zimmerman as well as Roca and Sur. Thoir performances, along with the cowboy number, were the highlights for me.
Of those who have gone or plan to go the the live show, how on earth will you determine where to look during the cowboy number? There were so many individual treats.

If I remember correctly, this year's NBC SOI broadcast was actually longer than last year's (which I think was only 60 minutes long).
I was happy to see Chuck E.'s In Love was included since it's a relatively new number (I'd still like to know why Scott chose it as his wedding song, though!), but I thought showing both of Scott's solos (especially since Scott already skated Figaro in SOI back in 1996/97!)was a little misleading considering he's not doing the full tour. After seeing this broadcast, a lot of people might buy tickets expecting to see Scott and be disappointed if he's not coming to their city. :( As for Katarina, I think she's only skating one solo in this year's show anyway.
BTW, anyone else catch a quick glimpse of Steven, Kristi, and Rosalynn in the audience when Scott kissed his new bride at the end of his first number? And did anyone else notice the first group number shown was actually the closing number, not the opening group number?? ;)
I agree I would have rather seen S&P's second number than that interview they did with Scott (where they didn't really say anything they haven't already said in about a half a dozen other interviews they've given this season anyway!) I would have loved to see Kurt's second number, too, but if NBC could only include one of his solos, I'm glad they decided on Slippery Side Up. First of all, judging from the reviews I've read from people who saw the Lake Placid show in person, Kurt didn't skate his Tony Bennett number nearly as well as he did during the Holiday Festival On Ice show and second of all, I think it's very unlikely Slippery Side Up will be televised anywhere else! I know there's not a lot of traditional skating content (jumps, spins, etc.) in this program, but I still thought it was lots of fun and most of Kurt's footwork (especially during the beginning when he's still wearing his skate guards!) looked just as difficult as any triple jump to me! :)
Overall, I thought NBC did a much better job than they did with last year's SOI broadcast (the absence of those "Kristi, Katarina, and Tara sitting and chatting around a vanity table instead of skating" vignettes everyone loved so much last year alone was a huge improvement, IMO!) Too bad they couldn't have shown the broadcast in prime time again, though--we could have seen one more number during the "NBC Sportsdesk" time at the end of the broadcast (and hopefully at least a few of the numbers NBC chacked will be included during A&E's longer, two-hour SOI broadcast!)

That has to be a two-way battle between Zimmerman and Yag
I enjoyed most of the show also. I too could have done without Scott's number. It looked stale compared to the new numbers from the young cast. I also didn't like Meno and Sand's number. They just don't have the sex appeal of the other pairs. Did Alexei use a different piece of music for his race-car program? It sounded more techno than the short program version he used at Skate America.

I've seen it live and it was GREAT! Hope to see it again when the tour comes back to the east coast.

Not sure if it was the same as from Skate America, but it was the same as from the Hallmark comp.

ITA !!!! Its a shame that I&Z won't be taking part in the Canadian leg of SOI Tour!! They are definitly one of my FAVORITES in the show.
I'd LOVE to go and see this years show more than once - just to see the Cowboy Number !!! Mmm mmm mmm !!!!

I've got to agree with you there. I never really did understand why Scott did perform? That number is definitly an old program, and we've seen it a million times over. I would have enjoyed seeing perhaps S&P's "Come Fly With Me" program.

The show was....okay.
I have tickets to see it Feb 1st, but that's only because I'm going with a friend who's never seen it, plus I wanted to see some of the new skaters on tour.
Being that this is the first skating I've seen in its entirety this season, I have to admit that skating just doesn't thrill me too much anymore. As it stands right now this SOI will probably be my last skating show.
Not thrilled with the cowboy number either... :??
I'm still not ready to give up my 80 or 90 skating tapes yet, but I'm about ready to get rid of all my skating pictures. Most of the videos will probably be the next to go...
EDITED to add: It's not that the show was bad - there were many great moments. Loved seeing R/S again, really enjoyed Alexei and Todd, Katarina was lovely. Psyched to see someone skate to Journey, though not too sure about the choice of song. Overall it'll probably be very nice to see in person.

I'm sorry, but I hate the Elvis/Marilyn number B&S have been saddled with this year. First I'm tired of the white Elvis costumes showing up all over the place. Second the interuptions of the boop, booping during the slow section is an embarrasement for Elena and third, I just don't see this type of number as fitting this couple. I know that they should try new types of music and styles, but I can't get over this poor choice. I hope next year they are given something better.

I really enjoyed the broadcast and it is ten thousand steps up from last year. SOI is back on track at last.
That Cowboy Number.....Hello!!! My oh my....Who to look at!?! My focus was split between Kurt and John. Oh and was it just me, or did John look an awful lot like Alan Jackson w/that hat and costume. The likeness really made me do a double take. Can't wait till April to see this.
Loved Jenni and Todd's number. Finally!!! They get to stretch themselves and Todd's just a hoot to watch during this. Great number for them.
Now, I've read some reviews and for some unknown reason the name of Todd E's music never clicked until I saw it yesterday. That is one of my favourite Bocelli pieces and Todd certainly makes it work. Another can't wait to see number for me in the spring.
Loved Slippery Side Up!!! Can someone please explain to me how on earth Kurt doesn't manage to kill himself!?! :D I swear that man's knees and legs are made of rubber.
Have to agree w/the Marilyn/Elvis number. Too bad, but it *is* fun to watch Anton as Elvis. Does he ever get into it or what!?! :D
I have to admit....I much preferred Jamie and David's Cdn Open performance of LTS than the one shown yesterday. They just looked tight in yesterday's show, where in Red Deer it just sizzled. I'm sure Opening Night jitters had a big part w/that. Still can't wait to see it in the spring though.
Roca and Sur...Stunning. Simply stunning.
Alexei....I think everything has been said that could have been said, so I'm not going to add to it. :)
All in all....It looks like a good show this year and w/out a doubt a big step up from last year. Can't wait for the spring when they come up North of the Border!!

Sorry, I'm kind of out of it, but what happened to most of the skaters that used to be in Stars on Ice? There is almost an entirely new cast.

Well it all depends on what skaters you are refuring too ??
Kristy Yamaguchi decided last year was going to be her last year touring with SOI - wanting to venture off and do new things ...
Tara Lipinski - she has an injury and is recovering (as far as I know)
Steven Cousin well he had surgery and is recovering and is suppose to join the Canadian leg of SOI tour in April.
Scott Hamilton - well he did his "Farewell Tour" 2 years ago.
As for the others such as Illia, Katia I'm not really sure why they aren't touring.
I think its great though they have fresh new skaters such as S&P, Yags, B&S .. they are all great additions to the tour !!

I was pleased they showed each member and a few ensembles. I was disappointed that they didn't show the opening number at all and instead began with the finale. I have a feeling that A&E will follow suit and not show the opening either, but I really hope I'm wrong. Well, I get to see for myself how I like the show in less than two weeks. I really loved Jenni and Todd's number. :)

Loved the Cowboy routine, and overall liked most of the performances. Was impressed with Todd and Jenni because for the last few years they have been kind of blah to me, but this performance was creative and fun.
I liked all of the pair routines, but it seems that Stars is always heavy in one discipline, and this year it is pairs....I missed having someone like Tara, Katia, or Kristi there. Katerina does not do much for me, so she did not fill that gap either. Same with the men....I think there was just Todd and Kurt and Scott.
As someone else mentioned, I would have preferred to see another number other than Scott's second one we have already seen before. Frankly, I think he should have come up with more new routines since he decided to Ice Wars and SOI this year. But I love Scott anyway.
Overall, good show, but do not mind that I am not going (other than the Cowboy routine).

I enjoyed the show & agree it was a major step up from last year's. My favorite numbers were the ones that Todd did, Roca & Sur's, Meno & Sands. The cowboy number was cute & "eye-catching.":)

i absolutely have to say how amazing kurt is... that no.was unbelievable..how he can do that is nothing short of fantastic.
i have to agree that john zimmerman does great things for a pair of jeans.
loved anton in the elvis no but elena is totally flat.
liked the pairs no...anton, elena, david and jamie... didn't like the speech part... todd skated great....
nice to see todd meno in a totally different role...
too many commercials. not enough skating. oh well...
I have to say I also really enjoyed the show. I LOVED the cowboy routine and haven't been able to stop watching it since! Must admit I watch Kurt and John the most. Loved Kurt's Slippery Side Up as well - I am sure he must be full of bruises from doing all those falls - he truly is amazing. Enjoyed all the other skaters as well, and I wish John and Ina were doing the show in Canada. Can't wait to see it live. Wonder who will be in the Cowboy routine up here in Canada.

I agree that Kurt is amazing. How was he able to walk across the ice on those skate guards? I wonder how many in the audience even know what skate guards are? I can't imagine doing stunt fall like that every night. His body got to be aching afterward.

Well when it comes to Stars On Ice I extreamly enjoy it !! However "sometimes" when it comes to "Pro" competitions, I can't seem to get into it either. All depends on who is skating actually !!! As for Stars On Ice though - GREAT SHOW DONE ! I think its better then last years show. More "upbeat"

Hmm ... I'd probably rather seen I&Z than Isabelle and Lloyd if they (B&E) are doing yet another of the same kind of routines they've been doing for years ... but I'm holding out great hope that this influx of new pro pairs will inspire B&E to come up with something different.http://www.veggie.info/images/icons/icon-5.gif

I agree !!!! B&E are great ! I do enjoy watching them. However to me sometimes they are "same old same old" *sigh*
Something fresh like Ina & Zimmerman would be ideal for this years tour !
Loved most of the pairs' numbers, including Meno & Sand and S&P's!
"Little Less Conversation" was cool too!
