T.L. – Yes we did, passion also is leading you in the direction of Hollywood what are the plans? What are the offers out there for you?
E.S. – I worked on a movie with Robin Williams and Danny DeVito, Edward Norton…Death to Smoochy, which was a different, dark comedy. And they wanted me to choreograph, interestingly enough, Danny had talked to me, they really liked my style, they wanted me to choreograph something for the show and that was interesting considering my past in skating and what was considered not artistic but we won’t go into that. Anyways, it was a great time working with Robin, I doubled for him in the movie and worked with him for about 4 or 5 days here in Toronto and it was just a great opportunity to get my feet wet and get a feel, I enjoy the process.
T.L. – More opportunities out there?
E.S. – Yes there’s another opportunity for a television show, a kids show next year. I can’t let out too much information but it’s a series I think of 13 or 14 episodes. They want me to play a main character, not skating, it’s skating related but I won’t be, I’ll be acting, I’ll play a completely different character than I would a skater so it’s great because I can test my abilities and get involved in that. I really want to do that. I enjoy, I enjoy acting, I love the creativity, the expression, the process. I love being around it.
T.L. – Speaking of creativity. Music, your relationship with music. In a sport that is heavy on classical you Elvis Stojko love heavy metal.
E.S. – Yes
T.L. – So what does that say about you?
E.S. – Well you know what, I enjoy really all forms of music. If it moves me, if it touches me internally then it’s something that I like.
T.L. – So Van Halen, AC/DC…
E.S. – AC/DC, Creed, techno, Goah, Trance…
T.L. – Whitesnake is that one?
E.S. – Whitesnake’s another one, those are all the classic 80’s. Def Leopard is one of my favorite bands. But you go all the way to classical you can get into like, stuff like Yanni, John Tesh, and Kitaro (sp?), love that stuff.
T.L. – All right speaking of love. So tell me about the love of your life?
E.S. – Love of my life, well there is someone in my life. She’s in the states and we’ve been dating now for a number of months and getting along great, it’s been awesome. It’s a long distance relationship but it’s going very well, I’m very happy and it was something I didn’t, wasn’t expecting, sort of just came about and when people were telling me that was the best way for it to happen instead of looking, I wasn’t looking at the time. And she used to skate, she’s a dancer, teaching jazz and tap and ballet and so forth and she’s just a really, really good person.
T.L. – We’re running out of time but I’d love to know what you think you’ll be doing and where you’ll be in your life journey 10 years from now.
E.S. – 10 years from now, well, one thing, one goal, higher than any other goal is to be happy, to be at peace, and be doing something, at that time, could be anything, could be acting, could be racing cars, could be still involved in skating, teaching. That I’m fulfilled by what I’m doing, that I’m not still searching and that I’m totally complete so that as I go on through my life, at that point if I’m fulfilled I can give back to the sport or other people, or children, what I’ve learned. And that to me in a nutshell is basically my goal and that’s what I see myself doing in 10 years.
T.L. – Elvis as always it’s a great time for me to take a journey with you. Thanks.
E.S. – Thank you.
