I thought judges weren't allowed to talk to each other while judging a competition but I saw Rodger Glenn and some other judge talking to each other at that pro comp a couple weeks ago. Is that rule only for am comps?

There are two answers to this question: the book answer and how things really work. Technically, judges are never permitted to speak to each other while judge. So, at qualifying amateur competitions judges are usually behaving in their most formal manner and will strictly adhere to the rule. With that said, at less formal non-qualifying competitions a judge may make an occasional comment to the official sitting beside her. Judges are aware that any talking can appear improper and do try to adhere as closely to the no talking rule as possible. But remember, judges are typically good friends with each other, so if a judge is freezing cold it is natural for her to say to her neighbor: "Boy it's getting cold in here."

I, too saw Roger chatting with the person sitting beside him. I would guess that he was probably speaking to the referee, which is always permissible. If not, the atmosphere of a pro am must be pretty relaxed.
