Here's a better contest. Let's start a betting pool on how much longer this team will stay together! I've got 20 bucks on them not making it to March.

:P

Jack,

I wouldn't take that bet....I think L&T are done also as I believe they will show at nationals, will claim injury and ask for a medical bye and will be denied. Look for strange placings below B&A and again, I'll go out on my limb with no rope and say that Gibbons/Pekarek will be in the podium mix. They have really improved since mids and are better than their skating mates, Fraser/Lukanin. But, we'll just have to wait.

Excuse me folks, but before you declare the last rites on L&T, there is one important point you all forgot. Even with injuries last year, they still placed in the top ten in the world. If I was you, a better indicator would be the 4CCs coming up. Even if they are banged up badly, they have to show something of their progress to the USFSA.

Even if they get a medical bye to the world and not skate at Nationals, they have to skate at some international competition not only to get some mileage under their feet but to also give some proof of their progress. That means the best opportunity is at the upcoming 4CCs.

If they cannot even skate in that competition, they need to do a B&K and sit out this season.

If B&A can show that they can perform well and beat them in both nationals and 4CCs, they will most definitely have the USFSA behind them - which in ice dance, means a great deal. Considering what we have seen, they have a good chance of improving.

But the important question(s) is which one of these two teams can finish in the top ten or can both these teams finish with a placement under or at 28 - the cutoff point where we can send two teams to next year's worlds.

My answer to the first question is probably - L&T have been in the top ten in the World before, and even with injury problems, probably would finish there again if they make it to Worlds. If for some reason L&T end up not competing at Worlds, B&A are at a point where they're definitely knocking at the top ten and with a National Championship behind them, they would probably squeak in there, especially since they'll have home country advantage with Worlds in the U.S. As for whether both teams can finish under 28 points and qualify two dance teams for next year if they both compete, my answer is absolutely - both teams would have to skate pretty disastrously for the result to be otherwise, and I'm thinking if they both compete, the point total would probably be closer to 21 or 22.

Another question would be if B&A would be able to place high enough to keep the point total below 28 if L&T don't compete - that's a little more dicey, but I think Gregory & Pethukov or even Nussear & Gates would probably place somewhere in the 16-20 range at Worlds, so if B&A manage to make it into the top ten, the point total would probably hold out.

Lisa,

What is your opinion about G/P's other skating mates, Mannon and Shalin? Where do you think they stand compared to other teams?

You always seem to compare G/P to F/L but never to M/Shalin. I wonder if there is some kind of rivalry going on between G/P & F/L? After all Fraser/Lukanin do not even compete at Nationals. They compete for Azerbaidjan, don't they?

Well I have to put my 2 cents in here! My Sekret Sources tell me that Naomi and Peter will very much be at Nationals COMPETING shortly. There is no thought of asking for a medical bye. Where did that idea originate anyway? I think everyone should hold off on this 'last rites' thing until after you've seen their new programs. Has anyone who is posting here actually seen Naomi and Peter do their new programs? Or are you just speculating?

Speculating of course! We´ve barely heard a peep out of these two for ages. Well except for that name the new lift competition. BTW have they found a name yet?

I hope that's true Hippiechick, I sure miss seeing them and really want to see their new stuff. I'm sure they still have some great skates left in them...and why in the world would they be denied a medical bye since Naomi is still injured? That makes no sense to me. Hopefully they won't have to go that route anyway.

This topic is hopelessly off course since the 1st reply. It was posted to give people a chance to be a part of a content, not asking for people to speculate on the future. Please don't reply further on this topic unless you want to talk about the CONTEST. Keep it to topic please. ~adrianchew~

This is a bizarre contest. In the rules, they specifically say that the new name must incorporate both of their last names completely or partially. That limits the options terribly. I suppose the lift name by default will be Chernalang or Langichev. And also, does the lift spin or have rotations? Change of position? It didn't look so overly inventive to require a name! Oh well, hope I win anyway. I do like this team, they were undermarked last year in my opinion.
