View Full Version : Champions on Ice-New Jersey
I'm a recent FSW refuge, so if this is inappropriate, please forgive me. But I was at the 2:00 show of Champions on Ice in East Rutherford, NJ this afternoon, and there were a few things that were interesting, so I thought I'd mention them.
First of all, Sarah skated, so I assume she missed last weekend's show for reasons other than a non-serious injury.
Secondly, the show started late, and when they introduced all the skaters, there was no Alexei Yagudin. However, he did do his number in the second half of the show.
Third of all, Ina and Zimmerman skated their patriotic Presley number. Since they're not on the tour, it was a pleasant surprise to see them (they live and train not very far from East Rutherford, so it made perfect sense for them to be there).
And finally, the second half opened with Joanna Glick skating to God Bless America "in memory of her brother Jeremy."
I had a terrific time.

I was there too!
Hmm - you seemed to have listed some of the highlights!
I was surprised for the rather cold reception overall for Irina - she did the 3-turn into 3-loop perfectly and almost no claps! 8O Both Plushenko and Yagudin seem to be much better received by the audience.
Almost no standing ovations - Michelle had a couple of people up off their feet, Sarah I'm not even sure got a handful or two? :(

Loved the show though got disappointed at first when Alexei wasn't announced. He skated well at the second part. I absolutely loved everyone's performance...they were all so creative and original. I'm definetely going next year.
P.S. Got the pass and got some autographs...saw Tchernyshev, Stojko, Peizzerat, Kwan, Plushenko, Geibel, Hughes....they were the ones I managed to see and got autographs from some of them. :D

I enjoyed it, too. It could use some work, but so could Stars on Ice this year LOL. I was so pleased to see the Russians, Bourne & Kraatz and Anissina & Peizerat live in addition to some of my American faves :)
Rudy looked like he was in a lot of pain from his hip flexor injury or whatever it was as he left the ice :(

Thanks, Rack, for the review, and it's good to see your familiar name over here :)
Can someone please tell me what A&P are skating to in COI? I'm so disappointed that they weren't on the tour when I saw it in April.

When they first joined the tour they were still doing "Suzanna" -- I saw the tour in Buffalo and Cleveland, and got to see "Suzanna" and the extended OD. I'm glad they switched -- I love A&P but I thought they could do much better than "Suzanna", which was cute but not really impressive, IMO.
