I was curious, which would you prefer?
Michele winning the national title?
or
Michelle landing a triple/triple combo(other than the 3toe/3toe)in her long(if you want you can add which combo you would like to see)?
For me personally, another title would be nice but I think I would rather see the triple/triple. I am sure that she could still add to her technical level and it would be nice to see. I think she could do the lutz/toe.
Others opionions?

how about mk winning the national title with a triple-triple? I think she can still do it! :)

she doesnt even have a triple triple planned in her long this year, let alone have a space for it.

Have you been attending her practices? If so, please give us a report!
From what I've been reading, MK has been practicing 3/3 combos.
Whether MK has one or not doesn't matter. I haven't seen any of the current eligible ladies landing them consistenly this season.
I would just like MK to be at Nationals, win or lose. I'd like to see her walk away with the World title again though.

There's actually two possible places for the 3/3. Her 3lutz combo opens to program, followed by a 3 flip combo. She is practicing both of those combos with triple toe according to MKF practice reports. There is no place for 3 toe/ 3 toe. Michelle knows that she has to try and get one of these combos, she needs them--most likely, but who knows, we haven't seen too many successful 3/3s this season.

i would more prefer to see michelle land the 3lutz/3toe or the 3flip/3toe than win Nationals, because she has never landed either in competition, and doing so would add yet another milestone in her awesome skating history.

Who says she cant do a triple toe-triple toe at the end where the solo triple toe is now. I know its unlikely, but the point is that there is space for her to do it.

Win Nationals. She can do it with NO triples, as far as I'm concerned. I'd take a nice delayed axel over any combo or triple.

Michelle has been a National and World Champion. I would like her to see her land a triple/triple in competition if she feels it is important or if she wants to do it, if for no other reason but to silence some that think she can't land triple/triple jumps. My Goodness! This is MK that we are talking about. In the Tonya/Nancy days SHE was the little jumping bean!
Michelle with or without triple/triples is still a beautiful skater.

Why not winning the national title with a 3/3!
Michelle has landed many different 3/3's in practice but it's a matter of consistency, committment, and confidence when it comes to putting them in your program(ala, 01'SC).
I remember Michelle was planning on adding the sal/loop to her program at 01' nationals but abandoned it because is was giving her lower back troubles. However, at worlds that year she landed them in practice and in the Lp warm-up but Frank told her no if she wanted to win and so she did.
Michelle says she's in the best shape of her life and is really focused on nationals so I honestly expect to see at least one 3/3 in her program!
MK 3/3's landed in public practice:
3Lutz/3Loop(01'SC,01'SA ehixb. practice)
3Loop/3Loop(97' COI; right infront of Tara)
3Salchow/3Loop(01' worlds)
3Toe/3toe(about every practice)

There is actually room for 3 triple/triples in Michelle's program, 3lutz/3toe, 3flip/3toe, 3saw/3loop. But I think 2 would be the max we would see. Also, reports came from Skate America 2002 practices that she was landing 3lutz/3toe's in practices fairly well. I'm hoping that she wins Nats and a one of the said 3/3's. But for just one....... I hope she wins nationals.

Quit while she's ahead. The girl is more than yesterdays news and even if she gets held up again at Nationals with her puny little jumps, it ain't gonna play well at Worlds this time.

I am guessing that isn't the real "GinnySmith" from the MKF since the post doesn't appear to be thought out (written well) at all. Her posts always are done well. :) Anyway, I think if MK lands a new triple/triple combo, she will likely win Nationals as well.

I noticed that too Jarrett. GinnySmith at MKF is one of MK's most loyal fans and she would never post something like that!
OD rises again?

Absolutely not...It is NOT GinnySmith from MKF. She IS articulate and, yes, she adores Michelle.

Hi, folks--
You are absolutely correct that Ginnysmith301 is not "me"!
Thanks to Jarret and kwanette for catching this and pointing it out because I have been off the boards for a while dealing with some personal emergencies.
I appreciate the support. However, I am not certain that I am all that articulate at all times, but anyone who has read any of my posts over the last 4 years has to know that Michelle is my all time favorite skater and that I would NEVER bad mouth her.
That said, this is an interesting topic. Frankly, I just want to see Michelle skate with passion and freedom of movement as she has done in more than one dozen spectacular performances. I really don't care about the triple, triples or triple axel or even the medal.
As a matter of fact, Michelle has landed a reasonable number of triple triples in her amateur career and should not have to apologize for anything in that regard.
I am going to steal something kwanette said in another post at another forum, in a time long ago and a land far away.....
If a gun were held to my head, I would like to see her land a beauty of a triple-triple (a "more difficult" one that the 3-toe, 3 toe) or the 3-axel, just to silence critics who claim she can't jump. I for one, really like Michelle's jumps. The technique is fabulous.
Enough said.

Are people saying that the michelle is yesterdays news thing is rude?? I think it is an opinion, and in many ways it is valid.
I would love to see Michelle move on to be a successful professional, and beat all of the skaters that beat her in her amature days. She has not won the last two olympics which most media and fans thought she would easily win. { I wish she had won them} She does not have to try again, she has nothing to prove, but it is going to be sad if she sticks around another 4 years trying to win . She should move on , try to take maybe 2 or 3 courses rather then 1.
Merry Christmas everyone!

If I had to choose, I would much rather see her land a 3/3 of higher difficulty...like lutz/loop or flip/loop. I'm sure that with the landing of one of those jumps, the National title will be hers. She just has to lay it down, and not forget about the rest of the elements, which often happens when a skater tries something that they've never done in competition before (Sasha's quad at SA a cpl years ago). I believe Michelle can do it though, because she is a fighter, and a very talented skater. I hope she does well at Nat's!!:D

Not being facetious here at all...but does anyone really think that Tara Lipinski would compete against Michelle in a pro competition? She has avoided any and all competitions with Michelle, unless of course it was a team effort.....
I am quite content with Michelle staying amateur! I love the thrill of competitions, and I love the thought of her changing and evolving. It will be a treat for me, as a Kwan fan. My dream for Michelle is to keep competing, remaining competitive, and yes, going to Turin...making the team by doing well at Nationals, and getting the elusive Gold. It can happen folks! :)

I think Michelle should go pro. And she probably will if the other skaters like Sasha prove to be so much better. But hey, if Michelle wants to give it a try, good for her. I just hope she doesn't humiliate herself and keep going on too long like Maria B. And as for Tara avoiding competition with Michelle-If anyone had the hip problems Tara has, they would have trouble walking up-right, let alone skating!

None of the pro's want to compete against a skater like Michelle. It only lowers their own marquee value. That's the simple reason skaters like Michelle should stay in the eligible ranks for as long as they have the ability. When Michelle stops being able to compete with the big boys, she can go join the circus.
I'd love to see her land a triple/triple and win Nationals with it, but I don't think she needs it. When her competition is landing them routinely, then maybe I'll change my mind. At this point, Michelle is still the one that all the others are chasing.

see this is what I do not understand. Why is she doing this? I know there is money involved, but she will just end up with a hip replacement when she is 25. I can not imagine any physician in their right mind ever recommending that she skate tours to help her hip...... she has to be doing this against medical advice. It will be hard to feel sorry for her when she loses that hip.

She's doing it for the money and to keep her name relevant. She needs both of those things to continue pursuing the acting career. I still don't think a 5 foot tall actress is going to get very far in Hollywood, but that seems to be what she wants for herself.

Isn't Penelope Cruz 5 feet tall??? Oh, and she's also a model. Amazing. I give Tara credit for giving the acting career a "go."
Anyway, I'd just like to see Michelle enjoy herself and her skating ... with a 3/3 or sans ...

well if she keeps skating without taking care of that hip, she will be able to star in some orthopedic rehabilitation videos.........how to recover after a hip replacement.

The reason Tara continues to skate is because she has a God-given talent for something she loves. It isn't for the money or to keep her name relevant. Her name is already in the history books as the youngest Olympic Gold medal winner ever. And a person would have to be insane to skate in excruciating pain just for money.

I am not quite sure I understand the question. Is there some reason why Michelle would not win the gold if she did a triple triple?
I want to see Michelle win the National title again - and to win the World title. Although some seem to believe that she is past her prime, I think the opposite - I think that she is continuing to move toward new heights in her sport, and that she will continue to surpise us with her expertise!

I am sure that she could win and do a triple/triple as well. I just wondered if the triple/triple would cost her the title would you still want to see her try it? It is a very competitive field and if she failed in the attempt it could open the door for someone else.

 Mum... but danny devito is a big name in hollywood. Dustin hoffman is quite short. Even the "hottest" actor - tom cruise is not tall.
How about oprah? She looks pretty short to me. Rosie does not fit the model body type either.
There are tall and short people in real life. So I think hollywood needs people of different height also. It needs people with talents.
If Tara can act well or have other talents in the entertainment business, she can do well. If she can't act well, then her height doesn't matter either.

All of these people are very talented and have done well in spite of their not fitting the typical model body type. Tara just isn't that talented IMO. Not only that, but it's going to take quite a bit for people to stop seeing her on the screen and saying, "hey look, it's Tara Lipinski". So, A) she can't act (IMHO) B) She's quite short and C) she's already "infamous" in another field. They all work against her, but no single thing will keep her from being successful if she works hard enough at it and gets a little lucky too. I wish her all the luck in the world.
