Elvis on Dave Foley Christmas Special - 12/22

Don't know if this has been posted yet but there is a one hour Dave Foley Christmas Special called "The True Meaning Behind Christmas Specials" (or something like that). Elvis Stojko will be on it along with many other Canadian celebrities such as Mike Myers, Tom Green, Jason Priestly (it was filmed in July), Dave Thomas (SCTV alumni), Joe Flarety (SCTV alumni), Kevin McDonald (Kids in the Hall alumni) and of course Dave Foley (Kids in the Hall alumni and formerly of NewsRadio). It is airing on CBC on December 22 (check local listings for time) and will air on CBS at a date to be announced at a later time. It is apparently supposed to be very good and very funny.

The only thing is ... I don't know if Elvis will actually be skating. In the promo clip they've been showing, he's sitting around looking wintery ... but no sign of skates.

Yeah I don't think he's skating in it just doing an appearance I believe. I'm not sure how long of an appearance it is though. Plus I hear that the show has been cancelled in the US due to Dave Foley not willing to make changes to the show to make the advertisers happy. So he said thanks but no thanks and now it will just be shown on CBC.

Good for him! I wonder if it will show up on cable, though. Although probably not this year. Doesn't one of the US cable networks still carry Kids in the Hall reruns? Can't imagine that this new show could be any less advertiser-unfriendly!

I don't know about the cable networks but apparently ABC didn't have a problem with any of the edgier content but they said that the advertisers wouldn't be happy with the end where Dave talks about the fact that buying presents isn't what's important at Christmas, they felt it would sway people from not shopping as much or something like that and they wanted him to change that and he said no way and pulled it from the station. I don't know exactly but it was something along that lines. So cable may not be worried about that kind of thing so you never know if they will pick it up or not, right now it sounds like it won't be shown in the US at all.

I don't think Americans are going to be seeing this special on mainstream networks anytime soon. Definitely Dave's sense of humour!
