This sounds horrible - Crest Whitestrips competition whatever - ugh! So commercial, so capitalistic, so uncouth, so - I hate to say it - American. This really saddens me. Someone told me that all the new sports arenas are being named by their sponsor's names now. So depressing. Is our whole culture just one big commercial advertisement? I can just see them renaming the Kennedy Center as the Listerine Mouthwash Center or whatever. At least Hershey's Kisses sounded kind of - sweet :) When will unbridled commercialism ever stop? There has to be a limit. There has to be some poetry and romanticism left in our culture. It's upsetting to see the huge corporate logos sometimes painted in the middle of the ice too, it seems like it would be distracting to the skaters, besides being tasteless and ugly. I enjoyed watching the Hallmark competition without all the ads on the boards! Nice change. Sigh. Does this bother anyone else? I hope so ...

I find it annoying. Years ago, I completed my imaging fellowship at a hospital who put in a new entrance pavilion that was paid for by the original owners of "Tambrands". Despite the fact that it is named for this couple, EVERYONE called it the "Tampax pavilion..." (not to mention the unbelievably bad jokes that accompanied that.)

Let's hope Stayfree and Preparation H and others don't decide to sponsor skating competitions!!!!

I agree Crest Whitestrips was a pretty cheesy name for a competition, but I still thought the "Metabolife World Pros" event a couple of years ago sounded even worse!
