What a terrific 'feel good' show! The show had something for everyone. There were performances by Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Church Street Singers, The Symphony Skaters, even a mini hockey game, and of course the special guest skaters. There were wall to wall children in attendance and of course their highlight was Santa! This was my daughter's very first skating show, and being just a toddler, I was amazed at how it held her attention. The purpose of the event was to get toys for the Toys for Tots program and it was announced that this show brought in over 17,000 toys for children in need.

I didn't take notes so I'll just give a brief description of the guest skaters.

Lucinda Rue looked almost like an Oscar statue in her all gold body suit with hood. Her spins were amazing. The audience loved her, and she stayed by the boards near the symphony signing autographs for all who wanted one.

Brasseur & Eisler were fast and exciting. Lots of response from the audience with their headbanger and Detroiter moves.

Besedin & Polishuk performed their matador/bull routine. Everyone was entertained, especially the children!

Lang & Tchernyshev performed their Parisian Walkways (I think that's what it's called) routine. They had different costumes this time, her in all black and him in a white shirt and black pants. About 1/4 of the ice on one end was taken up by the symphony and they had fall there as they tried to turn. The rest of the program was very good though.

Sasha Cohen was introduced and the announcer was listing the medals she has won thus far in her career. Then when he mentioned that she was now living and training in Connecticut there was lots of applause and whistles! She skated to a very pretty ballad sung by a woman, sorry... I don't recall the name of the piece. She wore a pretty purple costume and skated beautifully. Her spirals and extension are unbelievable, the audience loved her.

At the conclusion of the show a train came out hauling some of the toys that had been collected, driven by Santa. All the skaters who participated in the show came out and skated around waving to the kids.

Is this going to be televised? Some of the earlier years it has been, but I don't recall seeing it recently.

Dion - could that ballad be One Day I'll Fly Away by Nicole Kidman?

Yes Adrian, that's the ballad, Nicole Kidman's 'One Day I'll Fly Away' !!

Artemis, there were two TV cameras up in the rafters. I think if the show is broadcast it would probably only be shown in this area and I haven't as yet seen any listing for it The show was done by our local channel 30 station.
