I realized this afternoon that I don't know (and thank goodness for being able to correct mistakes- I originally typed it as a "lying" camel, and even I know the difference between one of those and a death drop).

Both have similar take-off entrance: the skating leg enter an imaginary circle as if stepping into spin. The free leg then swing up and over to propel the body into the air. A well-done death-drop usually has a look of suspension in mid-air before the skater come back down onto the ice. In the flying camel, the skater immediately hit the back camel position when the leg hit the ice. In a death drop, the skater assumes the back-sit position.

A death drop is higher than a flying camel. The entrance is much like one going into an axel with the follow through of the free leg. A death drop usually ends in a back sit spin. A flying camel has less of a jump, less time in the air and gets into the back camel spin faster.
