Thanks for the link. :)

"This is the year of seeing how she feels being back in the competitive field," said Robin Wagner, Hughes' coach. "Does the belly still burn without that Olympic goal? This is a year for Sarah to do some exploring of her heart and her soul in figuring out why she's doing what she's doing. She's not a one-trick pony. She's interested in education, wanting to go on to college. She's going to use this year to feel things out and see which direction she feels strongest about going. And that can only be a choice that she makes."

I found that quote very interesting. I just have a feeling that Sarah's going to leave the eligible world after this season ends (if not sooner)...in each article they mention college more an more. I hope she doesn't leave, but I get the feeling she will. Of course I could totally be off the mark on this...lol...but I'm not the only one who thinks this way. Whatever she decides to do, good for her. Her college/Doctor goals are to be admired.

It's very tense for me because I want to see Sarah be successful in her academics, and I'm so torn between that and wanting to see her remain on the ice. I'm sure she's torn herself about that! While it seems she knows what she's doing, I get the impression her heart goes back and forth on it every day. She may not be able to take one class per day in college like she's doing now in h.s., so that's probably what's making her and Robin think about changes.

I know that you follow Sarah's career very closely. Do you remember an article from last fall in which Sarah said that she didn't know if she would continue skating after the Olympics? I remember thinking at the time, well, she is young, and, I like many others, was not thinking OGM at the time. For the life of me, I can't find the article, but maybe I imagined it. Sarah has never come across to me as someone whose life goal was to continue to skate forever...education has always seemed to be very important to her and her family.I can see Sarah trying to win Nats and Worlds this year and then devoting most of her time to getting a college degree at a college like Harvard. However, I feel for you as a Sarah fan...as a big MK fan I felt after both 98 and 02 that I might never see Michelle skate competitively again and that bummed me out.I am sure that Sarah and her family will make decisions that are best for Sarah.

Hi Spiralsrfun..

I read that same quote, and came to the conslusion that she WOULD continue to skate. Funny, huh?

I hope she postpones college and continues in the eligible ranks. I would love to see her fill in that resume with a NAT and WORLD title. She would then eliminate that silly footnote about her Olympic win, and we would have the pleasure of watching an American Woman compete for a second Olympic Gold.....how cool is that?

I want what's best for her just as much as her family does, but I just feel mixed about it because while she got her PhD in medicine, bravo for her, oh-oh for me  due to the fact that she would be missing from competition. But maybe if she decides college is her priority she'll still be able to tour with COI every year and do more TV specials.

I read the same quote and came to no conclusion. :-) It sounds to me like she'll decide at the end of the season how she feels about things and what's most important to her. None of these skaters are "one trick pony's," Tara's pursuing an acting career, Michelle is balancing being a corporate spokesperson for Disney (and cartoon voice) and wants to finish up school, Sasha wants to act and model, Jenny Kirk is in college or starting soon and on and on. It wouldn't shock me at all if Sarah turned her back on skating and pursued Harvard and medicine full time and as for the "asteriks" by her name, who really cares, she won and the medal's hers there's no need to qualify it. Who knows she might quit for a year and miss it and come back.
