I had an old tape of the '92 Olympics on tonight and there, out of the blue was a 15-year-old Rena Inoue skating for Japan. I remembered that I quite liked the young Japanese couple that year but I certainly didn't remember Inoue. I have read her bio, such as it is, on the USFSA site but can someone fill in some of the pieces. Is she a U.S. citizen now? How long has she been skating here?

Part of the tape was one of the hockey games and suddenly they were talking about Brett Hedican. I assume this is the same hockey player that is Kristi Yamaguchi's husband. From then on I saw and heard his name all over the place. Another tidbit I never caught before.

Oh and just as a comment. When it comes to highlight packages put to music No one ever did it better than CBS. There is one at the end of the Olympics that is set to Carmina Burana - it's fabulous.

I love watching old tapes...

about CBS' musical montages, I was so disappointed at the end of Nagano when their final musical tribute was to the behind the scenes production staff. sigh...but perhaps there's child somewhere who dreams of being a TV editor or graphics person now ;) , so all is not lost.

I loved ABC's 1988 "Ode to Joy" at the end of Calgary, that was awesome.

A.H.--here's something else to look for if you have it from the 92 Olys: during the men's technical program you can see Brian Boitano in the audience. He's sitting at one of the ends of the ice; you can especially see him cheering when Paul Wylie is skating.

That one I did know. We scoured every shot that had anything to do with Paul at the time. I even have a shot from the first day when Paul skates behind someone during practice.

I would still like to know more about Inoue.

Just wanted to comment on musical montages...my top prize would go to CBC. The way they use the lyrics for the chosen song is awesome.

I'm prolly a big dork but I have all the montages on one tape including Pan Ams and Commonwealths. Personal 2 favourites are Sydney "Alive" by Edwin and SLC "Superman" by Five for Fighting.

leap of faith....I love the "Alive" closing from Sydney too. It was so well done - quite tearjerking - but what always gets me is when the coach says to his boxer "don't be afraid to go out and win the bronze medal"
