k... I might be blind, but I can't seem to find where the price is... Doubtful that I'll be able to afford it either, whatever the price, but it's about time that someone webcasts a competition. :-)

YOU can buy all 4 days for $50 if you buy before DEc 10. After that $20 per event. If you actually go to the purchase screen you get more information.

Does the qualifying round count in the final overall results or will the ones who qualified be starting with a clean slate now?

I know Williams Brewster struggled a bit, but I'm glad to see he's at least moving on. He's got a fun baseball themed short program to "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," complete with a baseball jersey costume and skates that are made to look like cleats. :)

Wow, impressive margin of victory for Carriere! I didn't get a chance to see the intermediate men at regionals, so I've never seen him skate, but it looks like he must have done very well. Too bad none of the other New England boys got through, but good luck to Carriere in the final round. :)

I totally enjoyed the webcast of the Intermediate Ladies Qualifying Rounds at Junior Nationals tonight. I had good video and audio and no problems at all with the feed. They actually had two cameras in use so the angles for watching the skaters changed. I also hope we see this used more often at qualifying competitions!

In general, the girls skated pretty well. A couple of skaters without double axels made the cut, but generally speaking, a double axel was needed. Many were cheated, some by as much as a half turn. Not too many clean triples however. Syken landed a triple toe/double toe combination. Most triple salchow attempts ended in a fall! I have notes on almost all the skaters; if anyone is interested in a particular skater, let me know.

Trillian - I've never seen Melanie skate before, but she did have some problems tonight. A fall on her 3sal attempt; stepped out of her 2axel, and fell on her double toe in her double flip/double toe combination.

Reviews on Group A and Group B are posted on Unseen Skaters already.

Here they are, as "icesk8er99" has given me permission to repost his/her notes elsewhere online:

Report from JNs Intermediate Ladies Qualifying Rd Groups A+B
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I decided I had nothing better to do with my day so I got the rest of the events and I took some notes. Unfortunately, I'm dumb and thought the group started at 5:15 so I missed the first couple skaters. But here's where I picked up.

Qualifying Group A

Milakirstie Kulsa - SC of New York - 2loop, 2lutz/2toe, flying camel 2, back sit 2, 1axel, 2flip, layback 5, 3sal 1/2 turn cheat, 2toe, 2flip/2toe, camel catch foot 4, back sit 4. Good footwork.

Ameena Sheikh - Northern Kentucky FSC - 2lutz/2toe, 2axel/2toe fall, flying camel 3/illusion/back sit 3, 2loop, 3sal cheated and hand down, layback 7, 2axel slight cheat, 2flip fall, 2lutz fall. Camel 2/ layback 4/back sit 4. Very fast skating but sloppy. Good footwork.

Michelle Elkins - Broadmoor SC - flying camel 5, 2loop, 1 axel, popped 2lutz, layback 8, popped 2flip, 2sal, 2lutz step out, 2 flip again popped, ok footwork, camel 5/ layback 4/beillman 3/back sit 3. I couldn't tell on that combination spin the exact revolutions because the tape was freezing on me again.

Stephanie Sosa - San Beritz FSC? I think I misheard that. camel 4/sit4/back sit 4, 2lutz/2loop, 1axel, 2flip, flying camel 4, 2sal step out, layback 7, 2loop/2loop, 2lutz fall, scratch spin. Good footwork.

Ashley Wagner -Anchorage FSC - 1axel, 2lutz/2loop, 3flip, 3sal 1/2 turn cheat, 2loop/2loop, 2flip/2loop/2loop, camel 4/back camel 5/ 2axel cheated, 2lutz, camel 3/layback 3/biellman 4/back sit 3, 2toe.

Just a comment, I think the judges would rather see these skaters skating clean programs then trying to throw in the difficult triples when they are very cheated. Just a thought for the future for some of these girls.

Michelle Trinh -All Year FSC - layback 8, 2lutz/2loop, camel 3/sit/3/back sit? 4, 2sal, 2axel, 2loop/2loop, 2lutz, 2flip, death drop 7.

Kaysi Kitsell -Atlanta FSC - 2toe, 2axel/2toe/2loop, layback 7, camel 4/layback 3/biellman 4, 3sal 1/2 turn cheat, and there goes the tape freezing again. Boy it's just making my day today! They really need to fix this.

Melanie Drogseth -SC of Boston - camel 4/back camel 4/back sit 3, 2flip, 3sal fall, 2lutz/2toe, layback 6, double axel step out, 2flip/2toe fall, 2lutz/2loop, death drop 5, ina bauer. I was disappointed with her skate I think she could have done much better, nerves must have gotten in the way there.

Jessica Chon - St. Moritz ISC - 2axel fall, 2lutz/2loop/2loop, 2flip, flying camel 4, 2flip. Layback catch foot 8, 2sal, camel 3/layback 6, 1axel hop 2sal, 2lutz, camel 2/ sit 2/ layback 3/ catchfoot 3.

I apologize for missing the first few skaters in the event. But I will try and get notes for you on Group B and C! Hopefully the tape won't freeze anymore because I think im messing up a few of these notes because of it.

Here is group B. I was absolutely SHOCKED because the tape did not freeze during the whole event!! However I got a phone call so I missed one skater in the middle of the group. But here are my notes on the rest of them!

Qualifying Group B

Victoria Muniz - layback 8, 2lutz/2loop, ina bauer into 2flip, death drop 6, 2axel - slightly cheated and 2 footed, 2loop/2loop, 2sal, simple straight line footwork, 2flip/2toe, 2lutz, camel 3/sit 3/layback3/back sit 2. Fast skating at the beginning but slowed down towards the end.

Annemarie Basile - 2loop/2loop/2loop, 2lutz, 2axel slight cheat, death drop 4, 2lutz/2loop, ina bauer, 2axel/2toe - another slight cheat on the 2axel,2flip, good footwork, camel 3/sit 4.

Juliana Cannarozzo - 2lutz/2toe 2axel steps into 2flip, layback 6, 3sal, ina bauer, 2axel/2toe. Circular Footwork good, 2loop, camel 3/sit 4/ back sit 5
camel 3/sit 4. Good speed throughout

Chrissy Hughes - layback into biellman 7, 2loop/2loop, 1axel, back spiral into 2sal, 2lutz/2loop/2loop and fell on that last 2loop flying camel 4/illusions, 2lutz, 2flip. camel 3/sit3/layback 4/back sit 3.

Allison Krein - 1axel with steps into a 2loop, 2lutz, flying camel 4, 2flip, 2axel cheated, 2lutz/2loop and a fall. Layback 3, 2toe, sloppy footwork, 2axel step out, camel 3/ sit 4/ back sit 5.

Sydney Shmidt - layback 12, 2loop, 1axel, steps into 2flip, 2lutz, 1axel, flying camel 6, 2flip, popped 2lutz, 2sal, camel 3/sit3/layback 4/back camel 1/ back sit 3. Too many positions for her I think.

Katie Stricker Skokie Valley SC - no notes

Laura Lepzinski - 2loop, 2flip/2loop, 2lutz, 2sal/2toe, flying camel 4, 2axel cheated, 2lutz/2loop/2toe, layback 8, 2flip, camel 4/ sit 4/ back sit 5.

Rebecca Hughes - 2lutz/2loop, 2axel/2toe, 2sal, camel 3/ sit 3/ layback 6/back sit 5, 2axel, 2loop. Circulat footwork good, 2flip/2toe, layback 6, 2lutz, flying camel 4.

Becky Bereswill - 2flip, 2axel/2toe, 2lutz/2loop, layback 8, 2sal, 2loop, 2flip/2toe, 2lutz, flying camel 3/back sit 2.

Ashley Beekman - 2lutz/2loop, layback 4, 2flip, camel 3/sit 4, 2axel fall, slow simple footwork, 2loop, 2lutz/2toe, 2flip/2loop. flying camel 3/ illusions

Jenna Syken - 2axel/2toe, 3toe/2toe, 2lutz/2toe, layback 5, 3sal hop out, 2flip, 2loop, 2axel, camel 3/back camel 3. She was I think the best of this group.

I'm guessing Results will be Syken first, and Cannarozzo second.

Here are icesk8er99's webcast notes from Intermediate Men Qualifying Groups A & B earlier today (no notes from C, sorry). I've bolded Stephen Carriere's elements below,

Intermediate Men Qualifying Round Group A

Hi! I ordered this event and watched it from my computer and I took notes on all of the skaters and I will share them with you. They are listed in order of SKATE not the results, I do not know the results yet.

Daisuke Murakami - Los Angeles FSC - opened with a death drop 5, 2lutz/2toe, 2axel, 2sal, camel 3/sit3/back sit 3, 2axel fall, ina bauer into 2flip, footwork into 2lutz, 2flip/2toe. Music wasn't very catchy and wasn't too well interpreted, but a good skate.

Ruston Kelly - Ann Arbor FSC - Music from the Mask of Zorro, 2flip, 2axel step 2toe, camel 3/sit 4/ back sit 5, 2flutz, simple footwork, flying camel was shaky not even 2 times around, 2axel, spread eagle, death drop 4. After this the video froze for a while I'm not sure whether or not he had any more jumps.

Stephen Carriere - SC of Boston - 2flip, 2axel, flying camel 4/illusion, 3toe/2toe (!), 3sal, camel 3/sit 3/back sit 3. Ina bauer, 2loop/2toe. Fast circular footwork. 2lutz/2toe, 2flip, death drop 4. Good speed throughout the program. I was very impressed with this performance and it was clearly the best in group A.

Paul Tran - Columbia FSC - 2axel/2toe, 2lutz/2toe, Death drop 2, 2flip, 2axel, 2loop. Straight line footwork was pretty good, 2lutz, camel 3/sit 3/ back sit 3, flying camel 3. Paul had little or no choreography with lots of plain crossovers going from jump to jump.

Victor Travis - Pavil SC of Cleveland Heights - 2 flip/2toe, 2axel fall, 2lutz/2loop, 2sal, flying sit 5, 2loop, 1axel, camel 4/back camel 4, walleys into 2lutz. Fast footwork into 2flip?, 2toe, sit spin 3/back camel 2, hop back sit 2. That spin was kind of shaky throughout, it looked like he had too many positions than he could handle.

Nicholas Girardi - ISC of Fort Collins - spread eagles, 2flutz/2toe, 3toe was two footed and cheated, 1axel, sit spin 5/back sit 5, 2flip, 2loop, camel 3/sit 4/ back sit 4, 2toe step out into 2flip, flying camel 4/ back sit 4.

Jaymes Shneider - DuPage FSC - death drop 1/ hop/ sit spin 4, 2axel cheated, spread eagle into 2lutz, 2flip/turn and 2loop, spread eagle, camel 6/back sit 7, axel into back sit? 4, 2loop, simple footwork, 2sal/ turn 2loop. Flying sit 6.

Nicholas Roby - Peninsula FSC - 2axel, 3sal slight 2footed, 2flip hand down, camel 3/ sit 4/ back sit 5. spread eagle, 2lutz, straight line footwork good, death drop 4, 2axel/2toe the 2toe was 2footed.. almost a pop. 2loop.

Princeton Kwong - Peninsula FSC - 2lutz/2toe, 2axel, 2loop, 3toe with hand down, 3sal hop out, 2axel step out into 2toe, flying camel 5, good straight line footwork it was very fast, 2flip, death drop 7, camel 5/ sit 5 / back sit 8. Good speed throughout the program although his skating was a bit choppy.

Thomas Jones - Charter Oak FSC - 2axel cheated/2toe, 2lutz, 2sal step 2toe, death drop 4, 2axel which was again cheated, 2flip - sloppy landing, camel 4/sit 4/ back sit4. Good footwork. 1axel, 2loop. After this part in the program the video froze again, I'm not sure if anything else was in the program I think it was almost over.

After Thomas the video never came back until the closing spin of the final skater. I do not know how he skated. But it looked to me from what I saw, I would have Carriere 1st, Kwong 2nd, and maybe Victor Travis 3rd.

Intermediate Men Qualifying Round Group B

Here are my notes from this event. Some of them towards the end, I think the last 4 or 5 skaters the video must have froze at least 10 times, I'm not sure what I missed in between the MANY times it froze, but here is what I could tell from the event.

Andrew Gonzalez - All Year FSC - Music from Mission Impossible - 2lutz/2toe, 2axel/2toe/2loop, 2flip, flying camel 4, spread eagle into 2axel, 2lutz/2loop, death drop 5, fast circular footwork, 1flip was supposed to be a double and a step into 2toe with a shaky landing. camel 3/ sit 3/ back sit 3. Good speed throughout the program.

Nathan Miller - Broadmoor FSC - Music was techno, with bad cuts - 2loop, 2sal, 2axel hand down, 2lutz, 2flip, death drop 7, 2toe/2toe, camel 2/ sit 3/back sit 3, 2flutz, 2axel cheated, flying camel 4.

Q. Kelvin Vu - New England FSC - flying camel 3, 2axel, 2lutz with a step out, 2loop, 2sal, death drop was shaky 2, ina bauer and spread eagle, 2flip, 2lutz/2toe fall, good fast circular footwork. camel 2/sit 3/ back sit 3

Ryan Hillstrom - Peninsula FSC - spread eagle, 1axel, flying camel 5, 2loop, 2lutz/2loop with a hop on the landing, death drop 4, spirals, 2sal, 2flip/2toe with a shaky landing, 2toe, 2lutz steps into 2toe, camel 3/sit 4, back camel 2/ back sit 5.

Zachary DeWulf - 2axel step 2flip, 3toe cheated and 2 footed, 2lutz, 2flip, flying camel 3, 2sal, 2axel, 2loop/2loop, death drop 2, good straight line footwork, camel 2/ sit 3/ back sit 4.

Jeremy Anderson - SC of New York - 2axel/2toe, 2lutz step out, 2flip/1toe, flying camel 6, 2sal/2loop popped into 1loop, 2axel, 2loop, straight line footwork kind of simple, butterflies into back sit 2, camel 2/sit 1, back camel 2, back sit 1, too many positions for him I think.

William Brewster - Detroit SC - 3toe fall, 1axel, back camel 5, 2sal, 2lutz/2toe, death drop 5, 2flip/2toe, 2axel fall, simple circular footwork, camel 3/sit 3/ back sit 4

Jeffrey Smith - flying camel 4, 2axel cheated and fall, 2flip/2toe the 2toe was 2footed, and of course now the tape freezes in the middle of the program. But when it came back I saw a death drop 4, circular footwork, 2axel/2toe very slow, 2flip, 2lutz, camel 3/sit3/back sit 3.

Paul Wood - Rochester FSC - 2lutz/2loop, and now the tape freezes and comes back every now and then at its own leisure, 2sal, spread eagle, flying camel 3, 3toe slight 2foot possible cheat, 2flip step 2toe, popped an axel attempt not sure whether it was going to be single or double, 2loop, camel 3/sit3/catch foot layback 3/ back sit? tape was frozen again

Daniel Innamorati - SC of New York - spread eagle, 2flip, 2lutz/2loop, 2loop, 2axel VERY cheated maybe even a full turn cheated so basically a single axel, flying camel 3, 2lutz step 2toe, 2toe hop 2sal, death drop 2, 2lutz, serpentine footwork was simple.

Roger Corvasce - Broadmoor FSC - 2loop, 2lutz/2toe, 2axel/2toe, camel 3/ sit 5/ back sit 4, 2flip, footwork was good, spread eagle, ina bauer, 2axel, death drop 5.

William Nottingham - Alaska Assoc. of Figure Skaters - I think it was during his program that the tape froze the most.. it must have been every 10 seconds it froze. I'm not sure exactly if this is correct but from what I saw ( which wasn't much ) - 2axel cheated and 2footed, 3sal slight cheat, camel 4/ back camel 4/ back sit 3, straight line footwork good, 3toe/2toe? video froze I didn't see the rest

From what I saw I would have had Andrew Gonzalez first because his program was I think the one that was most consistent as far as jumps are concerned, and Roger Corvasce second, and Brewster 3rd? the rest is in the judges' hands I think the rest were tough to say possibly Nottingham for 4th and Kelvin Vu 5th?

[end of icesk8er99's Intermediate Men's Qualifying report]

Can anyone can share how the top 6 men skated/jumped in Group C? They are: Oliver Yost IceWorks SC, Brandon Mroz St. Louis SC, Douglas Razzano Coyotes SC of Arizona, Frank Huber Sktng Acad of Plymouth, Mark Vaillant Philadelphia SC & HS, Timothy Ho All Year FSC.

Sure - here are the comments I posted on the very few skaters icesk8er99 missed from Intermediate Ladies Group A and B. (At some point, I might write up Group C!!)

Group A

Christa Solario - Dupage - 2axel/2toe; 2lutz/2loop; camel (not very strong); layback (weak); split jump; 2flip/2toe(fall); 2lutz; camel/illusion/backsit. (I may have missed an element or two here as I wasn't quite ready to take notes!) Fast, nice presentation.

Brittany Peltz - SC of Boston - 2lutz/2toe; walley; 3sal(2footed); 2loop; 2axel(fall); 2flip/2toe; layback(3-4); spiral; running stars into a camel/sit/backsit/scratch.

Lilly Pixley - Ft.Wayne FSC - axel/half loop/2flip/2toe; layback(6); 2axel(fall); 2loop/half loop/double loop; 2flip; 2lutz; 2sal. I missed her combination spin!

Group B

Katie Stricker - Skokie Valley - 2lutz/2loop; axel; 2loop/2loop; flying camel (4); 2flip/2toe; 2loop; camel(4)/layback(3)/sit(4)/backsit(3); axel; 2lutz; 2flip; foot to head spin (is there a name for this?) I really enjoyed her skate even though she didn't have the higher level elements. Nice speed, positions and presentation.

Does sound like a rough skate for Drogseth--she's been landing the 3sal and 2axel lately, and she's ordinarily an aggressive competitor. She's my favorite of the New England girls, so I'm hoping to see her come back strong in the final round. Looks like Danielle Shepard must've had a rough time too since IIRC she also has a 2axel and 3sal on good days, but I'm glad to see she squeaked through to the final. Good luck to all our New England girls in the rest of the event!

Danielle Shepard was my overall favorite. Her triple salchow was great, and its obvious she can do a great double axel, but she missed them both, and a triple toe too, she struggled to get up from the fall. Very rough outing, I hope she does better in the finals.

I guess if I hadnt read so much about Jenna Syken I might have been more impressed -excepting for the triple toe, double toe. My guess is she was very nervous, and her only smiles came after triple toe and at the end.

I really liked Nicole Tatouh (sp?). I cant remember what she did, but she was strong and expressive.

Good luck Ladies!

Hey, congrats to Gleason & Toth in intermediate pairs for following up their win in juvenile last year with the intermediate title this year! I haven't seen these two as a pair, but I saw Kylie compete in singles at regionals and she certainly does look promising. I wasn't sure what they'd do at JN's after they actually finished second at regionals.

Also pleased to see Molly and Christopher Schleicher in 6th place--these two are an enjoyable young pair to watch and I'm glad to see they pulled off a strong finish. :)

I skate with a lad that is competing in the juv boys. He placed 2nd in his group (A Group).

Do 2nd placers go to the finals?

We're so hoping he can place well as he needs sponsorship money. His family is going broke trying to keep him competing.

Hi Gary,

I think you meant 2nd in his *Intermediate* Men's qualifying group? Top 6 from each of the 3 qual. groups advanced to the short program round which is today. Good luck, Brandon! :)

P.S. Another prominent young skater from your area will be performing in the St. Peters Rec-Plex show tonight (Fri.) at 7 pm and Saturday at 5 pm. Check it out if you can!

Yes, I did see Kelsey Drewel skate. In fact, talked to her in the warming room and couldn't resist getting an autograph.

Wow, has she got terrific power!!!!!

My girlfriend's synchro team was skating as part of the Christmas show, so I was going to be out there anyway.

Hey all,
Is it me or are they taking forever to get results up? I've been waiting for Juvenile Boys final results all day!

No skaters are eliminated after the short. The 18 skaters that made it through the three qualifying rounds will skate in both the short and the long programs.

Most results are up now--big congrats to Melanie Drogseth and Juliana Cannarozzo for going 1-2 for the second year in a row, this time at the intermediate level! And great job for Julia Vlassov as well, winning the juvenile event with unanimous ordinals.

Sparklensk8: I guess by now you have the Intermediate men short program results. The top ten all had clean skates. When the boys went down to draw for the long, the officials broke into applause for a great competition from them.
