For those interested in moves in the field technique, go to www.skatesics.com. They have in-depth analysis of each move, basic skating technique and full motion video to boot. Pretty cool! 8O

Looks like it could be a very useful site, although currently unfinished. I tried to find a way to email them w/ a few questions, & couldn't find any contact info. I'll keep an eye on it to see how it developes, but it certainly has promise!

Its also a pay-for site, and commercial advertising is not allowed here on this board. :evil:

Just a question...

I'm not skating myself, just a fan - and am a bit confused about the expression "MITF". I've read it a lot, but always from people who obviously know what is it. Can someone explain that concept to me?

MITF=Moves In The Field

MITF replaced figures to include training in footwork, edges, stroking technique, control, etc. They are a series of exercises done using (in most cases) the entire rink (as opposed to figures which were generally confined to one little section, or "patch" of ice. Many of the Moves elements require a great amount of speed/power as well as edge quality & control.

Each of the freeskating levels (pre-preliminary through senior) has a corresponding MITF level. Each MITF level has several excercises in it, many of which have to be skated in both directions (both clockwise and counterclockwise around the rink). A freestyle skater must pass the MITF test for his/her level before they are allowed to take the freeskating test for that level.

Very recently the competition rules were changed to include a little bit of MITF requirement, although the skaters don't have to do a particular exercise in their program. At nonqualifying competitions, sometimes they have a MITF category.

Hope that's helpful.

:D
