Josee Chouinard does a wonderful variation of a backward camel where she inverts to an upside down posture. I think Bobek also does a version of this. Does anyone know if there is a video clip or photo of this spin on the internet?

Thanks.

Check my website - there are two different photos on each page for Avec le Temps last year. I do't remember Bobek ever doing this spin, but I have seen Charelen Wong do the spin (Quebec skater from the 1980's), likely where Josee first saw the spin.

That is a lovely picture. Thank you for the link.

Does anyone know if Josee executes this spin on a BO edge (which is the basic method for back camels) or does she change to a FI edge?

Thanks.

God.. Just looking at those pictures makes me realise just how much I miss Josee in the competitive scene...

She's so great (when she's on)... :)

Agreed. That, and she's always easy on the eyes. ;)

It's a backward outside edge, done either during a flying camel spin or a combination spin.

I have seen Annie Bellemare do it this year, don't recall seeing her do it in previous years. Josee has Choreographed her programs this year.. was it both or just the long?

Josee choreographed Annie's long program. Annie kept last year's short.

I really miss Josee. I missed seeing her in the recent broadcast of the Canadian SOI. This week-end's Canadian Pro's this won't be the same without her. Oh well, I guess that everyone has to retire sometime. Does anyone know how she is doing?

Josée did appear in Kurt's "Gotta Skate" show, some shows on Elvis' tour last month, and is scheduled to appear at a Christmas show in Newmarket, Ontario later this month, so she's not retired for good yet! :D ITA this year's Canadian Open won't be the same without her, though!

I don't think I've ever seen any skater execute this variation as beautifully as Josée....except perhaps Toller :D

These is a variation of this spin which is req'd for women in artistic roller skating. In the roller version, the skater does a BO3 transitioning to a FI edge for the inverted position. That is why I wondered if Josee also changes edges. I have been working on this spin myself (I'm an adult skater) and have not been able to achieve the FI edge.

This reminds me of a competition (I think it was the Starlight pro-am?) where Nicole Bobek did that particular camel spin and Jill Trenary was doing a rare commentary job there and said something like "she really got sloppy there, letting the free leg fall down like that". Now I love Jill and all, but I was screaming "Don't you watch skating! Don't you know Nicole does her camel like that on purpose!" LOL!
