Ice Demon, As an aussie, congratulations to the kiwi skaters too!! But Go the AUSSIES!! :P

Just a curiousity question...does NZ have their own Nats? Are Aussies allowed to compete there??

New Zealand does nave it's own nats and Aussies can and do compete. NZ nat's use to be after Aussie nats but with the change in schedules they may interfere with State's for some people, but isn't Australia just another state of New Zealand(lol) so it is all one happy family anyway. Congrats to the Kiwi's.

Yes there were some Aussie skaters down at Nationals this year. But they were held in Gore of all places (it's way down the bottom of the South Island near Invercargill) We were not very impressed because it was held in Christchurch last year so Auckland skaters had to travel down south for two consecutive years - besides the fact no-one has ever heard of Gore!!!

Next year the proposed date for our 2003 Nationals is 6-9 October and thank goodness they will be held in Auckland at the Botany Downs rink. Hopefully it will enable more Aussies to come over - it would be nice to see the two countries have more to do with each other where skating is concerned.

Go the Aussies too - in fact good luck for everyone - I'm not really that biased - I was just excited for Morgan and Allie.

Skating Down Under Rocks!

I am wondering what they are doing in NZ if their skaters can come here and be placed higher than ours. Must be something in the air. I think it is great to see them doing so well.

The Ice Demon - can you please enlighten us? What is happening with your skating programmes there?

BTW - the fourth placed skater in Primary Ladies was Simone Sheehan who skates at my rink.

When i came 2nd at nationals, a girl from NZ came 3rd so the person who came 4th was from australia was also awarded 3rd. So more or less on the results they put her as 4th but really she is 3rd as NZ are guests.

I think its nice of them to let them skate at Aussie Nats tho, more experience for them!

Hhmmmmmmmmm
Well I don't think our first few results were a good representation of the rest of the skaters results....
So, Aussie Willy in reply to your question, I don't think we're doing anything out of the ordinary over here after all. The other NZ skaters results are pretty average - probably Tristan has done the best in Junior Mens out of the other NZ skaters.

We have had a few coaching and training seminars here but apart from that it is just the same old same old. Aussies 2003 was the largest team we have sent (14 i think), it can only help our skaters but skating is just not big enough here for us to ever get far internationally. Now rugby and yachting seem to find enough $$$$$ and publicity.....

By the way IMHO the judging here sucks - for a number of reasons - lack of judges, lack of training, lack of guidelines etc etc. therefore it is quite interesting to see how our skaters were placed against each other by the Aussie judges.

Ice Demon - the feedback I heard from one of our coaches about the NZ skaters was very positive. He was very impressed with what he saw and thought they did extremely well. So there you go!!
