For those who want to read the analysis of proposed ISU judging systems (Random-7 and Median Mark with TieBreakers/MMTB) by Rossano...

WOW! That is pretty compelling reading! I had no idea such a clear case could be made. I thought this "Random-7" was inherently flawed, I just didn't know how badly flawed it is.

This guy questions a lot of the things I've been wondering about this system all along. Of course the ISU would never go for it...it makes too much sense! Plus it would ruin one of the "unspoken" inherent interests of the ISU -- allowing ex-Soviet and European "blocks" to control an event. With four "blocks" of carefully chosen countries though, I can just see blocks getting together to form a superblock LOL. The ISU and their cronies will always find a way to stay in control of the game, that's an unfortunate given. I had said earlier that it would take someone with a Ph.D in Statistics to figure this out...I was wrong. It takes a Ph.D in Astronomy. ;)

Excellent deductions from the doc. However, I propose that they just place a slot maching with each ladies picture in a row and after every skater skates we could have Kurt B., or someone just...pull the level and whamo! Whoever it lands on is the new Champion for G/S/B.

George makes some compelling arguments, but the whole mess about the system is a big red herring. The best system in the world is useless in the hands of corrupt or incompetent judges. As long as discipline is limited to slaps on the wrist, and as long as judges are left at the mercies of their federations, nothing will change.
I also don't care for some of the analogies used to "sell" George's system, and his attempts to go back in time and apply his system to older events is useless. His system applies actual value to the judges' marks, where previous events used marks only a placeholders toward ultimately awarded ordinals. There is simply no way of knowing what the actual marks would have been had the judges of the day been using this system.
