I enjoyed watching Isabelle and Lloyd on CBC's broadcast of CSOI tonight, but one thing I noticed (that I have been noticing for a few years now) is that they seem to conciously be avoiding adding the jumping elements to their programs.

"Never tear us apart" included only a 1lateral twist and their second number included only a throw 1axel (Isabelle throwing Lloyd). For a very athletic team, any info on why they avoid the throws, SBS and twists?

Only a few years ago they were doing 3twists, SBS 2flips and throw 3salchows quite frequently. :?:

Good question! I've wondered the same thing b/c I find their programs now don't seem balanced. (IMHO!)

Well, I remember that Isabelle had to take a hiatus a few years back due to a heart condition. I wonder how much the exertion needed to do triples of any type plays into their doing easier programs these days.

Very good point made indeed, but I don't think the lack of jumps really effect their performances or how the programs are unbalanced of any sort. I still think its very entertaining to watch both of them. Since they have so much energy, and have some really great numbers.

I think the fact B&E haven't competed for quite some time (I can't even remember the last time I saw them in a pro competition--sometime in 1997??) might also have something to do with the reduced difficulty of their throws and twists. B&E's SBS jumps were always one of their weakest elements anyway (not to mention the fact Isabelle finds it extremely hard to jump in spotlights!), so I'm not surprised they're not doing those anymore.

I'm not sure if the jumping elements pose any more risk to Isabelle's heart than some of the other tricks they're doing now, though! ;)

This couple is so downright entertaining to watch...I just never miss the jumps when they are skating! I think Isabelle and Lloyd are just into enjoying themselves (without the pressures of competition). I loved the two programs of theirs that I got to see during the SOI TV broadcast. I sure hope they keep skating as long as possible.

Do you suppose AGE could be a factor? HMMM?:) :) :)

The jumps and throws were never their strongest elements, even 8-10 years ago.

Personally, I do find their programs unbalanced and feel like I see the same tricks to different music year after year. This was especially apparent to me when watching them skate virtually back to back with B&S at Kurt's "Gotta Skate".

gandalf -- glad I'm not the only one who thinks so.

I really enjoyed watching them skate when they were amateurs, and skated to more than pop music...

I agree that their jumps and throws were never their strong suit ... but their twists and "eligible" lifts were the best around, and they almost never do those any more either. All their tricks are adagio / show moves now.

They're still incredibly entertaining ... but almost completely without substance. In fact, the only routine of theirs that I can think of since they turned pro that came close to a real "program" was Candide (from about 1995).

age isnt a factor. I know Lloyd still has his doubles, and they never did triples. Plus, I am clost to 30 and still do doubles, not to mention the host of 30 and 40 (brian orser, scott hamilton) who still do triples.

They skate for audiences now, not judges, so elements are not important. They like to WOW the audience. Nothing wrong with that.
